This is a Dunhill shape 588 (1960 Tanshell). It's the only one I've seen and wonder if anyone else has come across one. imgur.com/a/wcLkT6Y

Hold your cursor over the picture, right click the mouse and chose the copy option. When you get reply to post...you see a bunch of icons on the bar at the top, click the one that is a picture frame and left click. erase the http: stuff, click right on the mouse and choose the paste option and the click on the "insert image box. Voila! Use this thread to practice...nobody is going to rag on you. Badass pipe by the way.

It's a little different for me as I have a Mac. when Imgur is open I have to select the photo I want then go up to my menu bar and select edit then copy then back to my reply on the patch and paste it into the box after deleting the http that shows in the box. Does that make sense ?
Awesome pipe I might add

If I remember correctly somewhere around 1960 was the last year Dunhill made shell pipes from genuine oil cured Algerian Briar. I think the shape of your pipe is a bit rare. I have to admit that I’m envious.

That's one realy fine looking Tanshell. Dunhill used oil cured briar in their Bruyere and all the Shell finished pipes till around 1969. That one ought to be a good smoker !

Also, you can just paste the URL over the existing "http etc" as it's already selected. At least it is on my Mac, running updated Safari. And from trailboss's post above:

Thanks for all the replies. No one has come up with another pipe in that shape. Still wonderin' .. . . I gave you a link to a thread that featured a Shell 588. You might want to ask around in the Dunhill group on Facebook.

That really is a beautiful shaped pipe. The only other shape I've come across that is like it is the picture above by trailboss. Regardless, it's a lovely pipe.

So I'm the guy that started the post in the pipesmagazine forum about this shape. I bought the pipe featured in that post -a 1957 shell 588. It is a very elegant shape with a very thin, delicate shank. My example came from an ebay seller in Scandinavia, and is in pristine condition. I like it, it has the feel of a pencil shank billiard crossed with a zulu or yachtsman shape.
I have one, worthpoint has info on one sold on ebay about a year ago- both shell. You have the third that I have seen information on, and the first that isn't a Shell. I wonder about the band, given the group and finish stamp it might have been intended for a band all along. Mine does not have a band.
Coincidentally, I am also a 'Rob D'.
Best wishes, Rob

I doubt the band is Dunhill. I'm away from my catalogs so I don't know if I can get any idea when this shape came along but my first thought when I saw yours is that it looks like it was Danish/Pipe-Dan inspired. That elegant oval shank is probably pretty delicate and might be why we don't see many.

I also don't think that band is original to the pipe, it appears to lack a certain elegance and flow that I would expect from a high end factory band. But I have seen Dunhill's that had bands that fell off, this could be a replacement.

So just a little more info, although I think the OP has left the building. I found 2 more of these shapes, both Shell (1957 and 1960), both have mortise cracks, and both have had repair bands applied. So I think Dave is correct as to why we don't see a ton of this shape, it is probably a little too delicate.
