That looks like more fun than shoveling snow and splitting firewood.

We have the use of an apartment across the street from Jackson Square anytime we want. We definitely won't be there during Mardi Gras.

Not much on Mardi Gras, however Bavarian cream filled king cake is another story. I love them, I can eat my weight (no small number) in the things.

Doesn't look like as much fun for the chicken.

I could do without the beads and ta-tas, but I would have a slice of the King Cake! I have yet to find the baby!

One of the good things about Slidell is it's 32 miles east of New Orleans. I can get all the good King Cakes and don't have to get involved with the Mardi Gras madness in New Orleans. We have parades out here but they are way more family oriented and women showing their ta-tas do get arrested.
Not saying I didn't enjoy Mardi Gras in my younger days - I rode is a small Krewe for 15 years.

Is this why the chicken crossed the road?
Seriously though, what's the background to the chicken chasing?

Mardis GRAIS was celebrated in rural communities before Lent. Riders on horseback would don costumes and go house to house tricking treating, begging for something to put in the Community Gumbo pot which was cooked at the end of day with a big blow out, it was let it all hang out before Lent, Lent in the Cajun Land was a Solumn thing 40 days, no drinking, playing Booray, carousing.

Is that a half a stick of Boudin I'm seeing? Brought some back when traveling back from San Antonio...shared it with my truck mechanic along with some mesquite charcoal as he is a serious grillin' man. Stopped at a place called Homies in Orange, La....had at least 15 types of boudin sittin' in heated containers ready to eat. Great food, looking forward to going back.

I don't think I've ever had really bad boudin unless it was something sold in a grocery store and even then there are several brands that are good. When I do hamburgers on the grill, I always do some boudin and smoked sausage to go along with them.

It's been several years since I have gone to Mardis Gras but we have a bakery here which is owned and run by a man from Lafyette, La. and he makes the BEST King Kakes around ! It's close to time when he puts 'em out so I'll be checking just about daily to get one !

I went to a local bakery to get some Dakota bread and they had King Cakes that they bake right here. They were handing out samples, which gave me my King Cake for the year and stayed within my diet limit. It was filled with fresh blackberries. Win-win!
