My son brought me a bag of loose leaf tea back from Turkey after his deployment. I can't read the bag, so I have no idea what it is, but I really like it. I have a cup every now and then. Had one tonight. I also like a rooibos tea from South Africa, but I don't find that very often. Havent had any for a while.

Since this a tea offering, thought I'd post this here: ↓ 30% OFF ↓ ALL CASCARA!COSTA RICA CASCARA COFFEE CHERRY TEA NICARAGUA CASCARA COFFEE CHERRY TEAWe are changing things up a bit with this week's sale! Instead of coffee, we are offering our very popular cascara coffee cherry tea! If you aren't familiar with cascara, it is the husk of the coffee cherry that can be brewed as a very sweet and syrupy tea! We've also provided a brewing guide at the bottom of this email in case you haven't had the chance to taste it before. Our Nicaragua cascara is the more complex of the two, offering a balanced ratio of sweetness and acidity. The cup brews a little lighter with these cherries, making for a mellow-bodied cup with a pleasant tartness that rises to match the sweet flavors. We identified notes of caramel, peach, and some brightness. The color on this cascara brews to be a light reddish/pink color. The Costa Rica cascara offers up a very heavy body with syrupy, raisin sweetness. This cup brews a lot darker color of red, and we tasted notes of caramel, golden raisin, and an overall sweetness to the cup. We suggest brewing individual cups of cascara with the following recipe: Hot Brew: Heat water to a temperature of 200ºF. Use 18g (3 heaping tablespoons) of tea to 300g (10oz.) of water. Place in heated water and let stand for 6 minutes. Strain and enjoy. Cold Brew: Use 36g (6 heaping tablespoons) of tea to 300g (10oz.) of cold water. Place tea in water and let stand in the fridge for 24 hours. Strain and enjoy. USE CODE: CHERRYTEA Offer valid through Friday 2/8/19 Midnight. Only one discount code per order. Cascara only
Just a note: I went ahead and ordered a pound of the Costa Rica Cherry and a pound of the Nicaragua Cherry . Total before discount is $15.48. After discount is applied $12.73 plus $7.90 shipping for a total price of $20.63

Reviving this thread instead of starting a new one, I'm going to start trying hot tea. I had to give up coffee due to reflux, and I find I miss my hot drink. I tried a little bit of green tea years ago, and found I could barely taste it. It was cheap (in the derogatory sense) tea bags in the break room at work, though, so I'm assuming it wasn't a fair representation of that kind of tea.
Anyway, I think I want to start with some black blends -- breakfast-style teas, apparently -- in loose-leaf form. Looks like there are some good suggestions upthread. Anybody got new ones?

Threadsuurection! Wayne Powers has done just about everything in his career, actor, singer, voice over, tobacco importer, and now a tea importer. The guy knows his stuff, and all of the teas we have ordered, albeit only have ordering a few, all have knocked my socks off. He only deals in top shelf stuff. My knowledge is sparse, but I think he is the one that answers the questions from the "contact us" page. tearex.com/contact-us.aspxIf you want the background on him and hear his opinion on teas, scroll down in the paragraph and click on : Click Here to Play the Showpipesmagazine.com/blog/radio-talk-show/the-pipes-magazine-radio-show-episode-355/

Black teas are my favorite. For my every day tea, I’ll sometimes make my own English Breakfast blend with Assam, Ceylon, and Kenyan. When I’m lazy (most of the time), I do traditional English builder’s tea - PG Tips, Typhoo, Yorkshire Gold, Tetley’s English blend. I’ll often throw a bag of Kenyan Ketepa Pride in the mug too, which ramps up the currant/stone fruit notes.
I really like Da Hong Pao “Big Red Robe” from China, as a staple example of good Chinese black tea. There are myriad blends and styles of black tea from many regions in China. The Peuhr teas are really challenging, and can mimic tobacco cellaring with the origin and processing be it Raw, ripe, with age, etc. you can store Puehr pucks for decades, and they’ll continue to change as they age. Green tea is just as diverse, but more nuanced, I find, but haven’t delved into green teas very much.
Straight Tea is kind of like the pipe tobacco of drinks. Endless varietals, blends, and processes to achieve a certain outcome. The notes in natural tea are much like we get from our most beloved tobacco blends.
Tea is another rabbit hole. Another ritual. I know some guys who do tea sessions like they would a pipe. The gongfu brewing guys. I haven’t gone whole hog with it, but I enjoy it thoroughly, and usually order a bunch of interesting stuff to explore several times a year.

Thanks, Jason. Good info. I don't know enough to know if I'm interested in Chinese teas, but I'll check those sites, too.
Yeah, I'm just looking for something quick and simple to replace my old companion, coffee. Not the caffeine. I drank decaf, anyway. It's just the stage business of having a thermos or mug you can reach for and then lean back and think a while when you're working on something. Taking a hot sip every so often. Something about that is helpful.

50/50 darjeeling assam has been my AM kickstart for decades. Have always seen coffee as an afternoon experience.
Have used Upton Tea since last century. A sterling online vendor.
