Just found this thread on the home page. I like playing thoroughbreds. I'm not good enough to beat the Vegas guys and their spreads on other sports so I don't try.
Anybody else play?

Mark, my nephew does this for a living. I’ve seen him go from rags to riches......and back to rags. Between the ponies and professional poker tournaments he goes through many lows and highs in his life. I’ve warned him a few times he’s living on the edge. Playing is his “ high “ in life.

Going pro is pretty risky. I kept my day job, casually play weekends. That’s when all the stakes races are run, the best hosses are on the track and I have my best chances to turn a profit. The difference between playing horses and poker is you have more control in the former, not so much in the latter.

Great tune ... a classic! I'm a Texas Hold 'em Poker guy and prefer some skill to be involved rather than pure luck when it comes to my cash.

My nephew was on TV when he defeated Phil Hellmuth, a 15 bracket champion. Phil stood up and walked over to my nephew Adam, hugged him and said “ you finally beat me “! Phil played with that “ cold “ stare, but was a true gentleman. That was one of my nephews highs, many lows followed.

My Mother’s Brothers Son is an Admiralty Lawyer in Houston. He was my fathers godchild. He made a killing and invested in a thorough bred farm based where his Grandfather sharecropped. Buying and raceing them for a good while until the tax advantage turned to breeding. The farm at present is still thriving, Cajuns love their horses, dirt tracks used to dot small towns all over South Louisiana. Several of my cousins into Quater horses used his facility. Since his wife died I have lost track of him.
