About 13 or 14 years ago, I was picking up a few tins at my local B&M. A nicely dressed gent was looking at several blends and 2 or 3 pipes. He said he used to smoke a pipe, gave it up and smoked cigars for several years and was wanting to start smoking pipes again. He asked my opinion on several blends, purchased some and left. A few weeks later, same store, same man. He thanked me for my suggestions and asked my about a short, bent Karl Erik pipe. I said it would be a nice pocket pipe. He left the store before I did. I picked out my tins and went to pay. The clerk put that same pipe in my bag. I yold him I didn't pick that one up. He told me the other gent paid for it and told the clerk it was for me, his gesture of appreciation. I never saw him again to thank him. By the way, it is a great smoking pipe.

That was definitely a nice gesture on that gentleman’s part that you helped out. Only proves there are still some good people walking the Earth. If he’s part of a pipe forum or lurks around pipe forum’s, he might spot your post. Good on the both of you👌👍👍

I worked in and around Janesville for Ryan Central and never found a decent shop. The closest thing to a pipe/cigar shop was a hookah lounge that had a few bulks and sticks.  |

Great story, and not entirely rare when it comes to pipe smokers. I have been on the receiving end of some incredible generosity from some of our members here. I believe, in general, it's typical of pipemen (and women.)

I worked in and around Janesville for Ryan Central and never found a decent shop. The closest thing to a pipe/cigar shop was a hookah lounge that had a few bulks and sticks. The store is in South Beloit. Mostly cigarettes, cigars, and cheap wines. A couple of OTCs. Not many any more. |
