One hardly hears mention the fine qualities if this unsung cob referred to as The Patriot. Why it was given this name escapes me. Somehow my understanding of the definition of a Patriot, (One who is very loyal and vigorously defends their country when called upon.), doesn’t seem to fit. But this little cob is very consistent in providing a stellar smoke. Having a chamber that’s 1 3/4” deep and about 3/4” in diameter I find most ribbon and cube cut tobaccos really perform well in this wee jewel of a pipe. It has a hardwood plug in the bottom of the bowl which should prevent burn though and it is one of the lightest pipes I have ever smoked. The distinctive styling gives it a certain “flair”for those that want something that doesn’t look like a plain cob. It has no filter but comes with either a straight tapered 3” stem or a bent 3” stem. I believe this length allows the smoke to cool before reaching the smoker. A lot of pipe smokers use cobs for Aromatics or Burley blends. I like to use them for all genres of tobacco including blend with Latakia. My Patriot particularly likes Andullo. Now I’ve smoked Andullo in a variety of cobs but in my Patriot the smoke is a little richer, creamier, and a lot sweeter. I wonder if it’s because of the deep narrow chamber? Could this chamber be concentrating the flavors making them more noticeable? I really don’t know, but I do know this little cob gives me a bit more than most other cobs and never fails to perform when called upon. Maybe this cob does fit the definition of a Patriot. AJ

I like the way you've described this... And I think you're right. Might be one for my rotation too.

I will have to buy a Patriot now. You can let go of my arm now AJ. I love the cobs I already have and smoke them several times a day or all day sometimes so one more isn't going to kill me.

For those of you that have the sudden urge... Mars Cigars has them for $7.80 ea. I have no affiliation with Mars Cigars other than I occasionally buy from them. I’ve always found them to have superior customer service and fast shipping. AJ Click Here

The Patriot is the cob I rely on most... holds just the right amount for a lounge session, smokes cool with a neutral influence on flavor (but can really sweeten some blends), ergonomically perfect for me, and looks damn nice..

Thanks for the write up...good looking cob...looks like some stain happy fool got a hold of it...and glazed it too...why couldn't he just leave it alone? Because he’s good at staining cobs. In addition, he’s one of my best friends and I asked him to stain my cobs. Being the loyal friend that he is, he agreed and did a fine job. BTW there may be some more cobs that may show up in your mailbox within a week or two. AJ

After much arm twisting I ordered a straight and bent Patriot along with a bad of 7 seconds.

I enjoy my Patriot bent and straight. A great pipe value compared to the Outlaw Series which has a similarly designed flared bowl.

When I started this thread I had no idea so many had an interest in the Patriot much less actually used and liked them so much. I can’t begin to describe how much it pleases me to find so many of my pipe smoking brothers have discovered the delights of this uniquely shaped cob. Thanks to all that have shared their thoughts and opinions.

Great and just review in defense of the relatively unsung Patriot cob. I have four of them and found they're great with flakes, particularly Dunhill Flake, of which I still have some tins left. Just cram those flakes in and enjoy, as someone recommended to me once. The cob bowl looks like a champagne cork for a reason!

Miller claims to be the Champagne of beers...Maybe the Patriot is the champagne of cobs?
