Hi I am going to Melville, in the town of Huntington on Long Island, for an interview and was wondering outside of visiting Manhattan (I do not believe I will have the time and already know key places there.) are there any tobacconists worth visiting in the Huntington-Melville or surrounding areas (Even if they only sell cigars with a lounge.) ?

I grew up in Huntington Township, Dix Hills to be exact. Ex Volunteer Fireman and EMT. Some of us would hang out upstairs inside this excellent cigar lounge. Knowledgeable and friendly people. My last visit to NY four of us hung out there a few times. You won’t find many B&M’s on Long Island that sell pipe tobacco. Check this place out, it’s located right off rt. 25A.......... huntingtonhumidor.com/

September of 2016, I visited for almost a month. Went out with a few old friends. That cigar shop I highly recommend, during the day you’ll have no trouble going upstairs and enjoy a few cigars in the lounge. At night if your not a member and they are crowded your out of luck. My doctor friend is a member, so all of us had no issues enjoying the lounge in the evening. Especially when the crew I went with spent over $300.00 on cigars.

Couple hrs north is cup o joes A bit too far as I might be short on time with the interview and all. I am flying in from Kansas and staying at a hotel room, at their expense. Unless I wish to pay for extra nights at the hotel, I am limited in my traveling options.

A great selection of cigars. Free coffee at all times. WARNING.....a BIG hang out for Deputy Sheriffs, Police and Fed’s, many retired. So, no white jelly donut powder on your nose when you walk in, I “ garontee “ you’ll be questioned.......lol.

I thought maybe that the interview was in long Island, but the position was in kansas.

First off, this being Long Island, Melville is 30 to 60 minutes from Huntington, depending on traffic. (On a Saturday, you can often out-walk the traffic.)
Yes it is part of the township, but the townships are named after specific actual communities. Huntington township stretches across the entire island. Huntington itself is a village/town on the north coast.
Secondly, the only cigar lounge I've ever heard good things about is a local chain, Matador Cigars. I never had the pleasure of stopping into one, because traffic made it prohibitively unpleasant to reach any of the Matador locations from my then-home. (Yeah, it's only ten miles, but it might take an hour to get there) It appears Melville is roughly equidistant between the two further-out Matador locations.

The ONLY Matador Cigar lounge that I’d recommend is in Roslyn Heights , Nassau County, I’ve been there many times. It’s much further than the cigar lounge I recommend. You stated you’ll be staying in the Melville area, your hotel is most likely on New York Avenue, rt. 110. Rt. 110 will take you directly to 25A...you make a left and a few blocks away is Huntington Humidor. Even with stop and go traffic on a Saturday your travel time would be under 45 minutes. I’ve made it from the Hilton in Melville to the Huntington Humidor during the week in just under 30 minutes. If you were staying in Nassau County I’d definitely recommend the Matador, plus another one I frequented in Westbury. I’ve been to every cigar lounge on Long Island. I know the good and the bad. I’ve personally been to these places, I’m not going by what I heard. From Melville to beginning of Huntington is 6.3 miles. You’ll have to travel roughly 12 miles more North maximum from your hotel.

Well if I am offered and accept the job, you have given me a number of solid choices to visit in the future, not to mention the shop to visit for my interview trip and thanks for the directions (I have to admit I already looked up the Huntington Humidor's location and Google map's directions from the site of my interview.), much appreciated and courteous of you Ted.

There was a certain amount of snark in my 30 to 60 minute estimate. But not too much snark.
Traffic was a major aspect in my decision to leave Long Island. It's surprisingly difficult for a suburban area.
On Saturdays I just got used to staying put, because it was hopeless to drive

I am stuck in Detroit for the evening due to a flight delay issue. Sad to say I will now have to fly into LaGuardia and make a run to the interview without much rest. For those inclined to believe in prayer, please keep me in mind tomorrow from 1-5pm eastern.
