Just wanted to say thank you for allowing me into your world. New pipe guy and overwhelmed by the options. I smoked cigarettes for many many years. I use an e-cigarette for my nicotine needs. Enjoying a pipe isn't about the craving of nicotine. It's the taste, the peace, and beauty.

Welcome Gomer. Former cig smoker myself. You're spot on, totally different experience. Hope the pipe treats you right and you have fun here.

Welcome sir, I missed out on cigarettes but I enjoy a mini cigar & good Virginia's, & the occasional e-cig of menthol particularly ( but 0mg), smoke the peace pipe & I hope to learn some of your pipe lore, that we all share, bye.

Welcome, Gomer. Good to have you. Tell us a bit more about yourself. 40ish, from Arkansas. Married. 3 kids. One married, one close and one still in high school. Work for myself mostly. I buy palletized merchandise for resale. Also a computer tech. Wife is a hospice nurse. That's about all I have lol. I started this on a whim one day. My son who is 19 rolls his own cigs. He smokes about 2 a day. Goes days without. Just likes the taste. We ran to the local tobacco store one day couple weeks ago and there was a pipe on the counter. I thought you it's been awhile. I bought it and an 8 dollar bag of some cheap Virginia pipe tobacco. Well the pipe was terrible. It was a metal China pipe which I didn't realize until I got home. At that point my son had already destroyed the package. I went digging and found an old corn cob cheap pipe I had. It was cheap. Like 3 bucks cheap. I carried on with those while I started researching. I ordered a no name brand estate briar pipe on eBay. In the mean time I stopped by another tobacco store and they had some Missouri Hard Wood pipes for about 6 bucks and I grabbed one. I was pleasantly surprised by how it smoked. Yesterday my no name brand briar showed up. It's so bad. Gurgle gurgle. Well I have ordered a BBB billiard estate from eBay. It should be here Thursday. I'm about to stop at Walmart and pick up some kosher salt to try and clean up my no name. Hopefully it will resolve my gurgle blues. I'm not overly hopeful. Just in case I have some very very nice estate pipes on eBay that I'm waiting to close on. There is one in particular I'm very excited about. I missed out on a Castello Sea Rock the other day. I'm not in a position I can drop 100 bucks on a pipe right now. Maybe for Christmas.

There are some very good estate sites that are run by highly respected guys, Mkelaw-Pipes, and James Island Pipes are just 2 off the top of my head.

Welcome Gomer! I used to be a 4 pack a day smoker till I got married in 2004..put the pipe down that same year and about a year ago I pick it up again and remembered why I enjoy pipe smoking,,it is about taste, relaxing and finding that happy place you gan go to while the rest of the world passes by!
