Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone here smokes Dokha or owns a Medwakh. I've never had one, but it has always been a curiosity of mine. I was in the UAE today and I saw loads of guys smoking those little things in the smoking lounges in the airport.

 Basically theyre these little guys that you put a powdery mixture of super nicotine hit tobacco and spices in. The mixture that goes inside is called Dokha. They stay lit for about 15 seconds. |

No bites! I guess this means that if I get caught with one of these things in the wrong town, they're definitely going to mistake it as pariph, and I'm going to go to jail!  |

I get these little things made by American Spirit that come 20 to a pack and stay lit for 5-10 minutes.
Haha Never heard of Dohka.

Are they meant to aid in cessation? I can see how that may be worthwhile.

Are they meant to aid in cessation? I can see how that may be worthwhile. I've seen these guys with them before. They're actually a 500+ year old pipe tradition on the Arabian Peninsula and Persia. This one might shock us and actually turn out to be kind of tasty. |

Funny, I've been all over the Middle East, including the UAE, and have never noticed these. Granted, I was not a pipe smoker at the time. Shisha/nargila/hooka was everywhere, though.

My understanding of the pipe is that it is more common among the lower classes. The higher class are more likely to smoke via other modalities. I might me wrong, but that is what I have seen/heard. So I don't think the Iranian police would have a problem. Our police.. Another story. The thais would go crazy if they saw this thing! The police would have a field day trying to get bribes from you. |
