How many of you smoke Dr. Grabow pipes as a part of your regular rotation? I have 3 or 4, but 2 of them are smoked regularly. I have a Dr. Grabow Freehand that doesn't get smoked much. It's a good smoker, but I am not in love with the appearance. It looks good, just not my "cup of tea".

I've got a few from the 50's and 60's that still get smoked on occasion ... they never disappoint!

I have one I picked up cheap as an estate pipe restored from Dave Whitney. It smokes well so I have no complaints.
I've been curious about the "Big Pipe" from Dr. Grabow but have yet to pull the trigger on that purchase.

A decade ago or more, I got into collecting older Grabows, joined the Grabow forum (I still get email notices from them) and had a lot of fun with it. They are excellent smokers, but once I made the move to "higher grade" pipes I gave the Grabows away to a friend. Not a thing wrong with them, but the aesthetics were not to my liking. YMMV.

I own everything from Dunhills to Grabows. I own more Grabows than anything else, and while they still make a very solid pipe today, I mostly prefer some of the older shapes which are no longer made. I've got several Grabows that smoke as good or better than anything else I own.

I have 3 or 4 that I smoke. My Grabow freehand was my first briar and I love it. Other than cobs, it gets smoked the most.

I much prefer the older pipes by Grabow, especially their Freehand.....a much chunkier piece of well aged briar. I don’t care for the new models at all. I will say Grabow’s customer service is second to none!!!

I will say Grabow’s customer service is second to none!!! Well said, Ted. For instance...send them ANY Grabow pipe needing a new stem...they'll re-stem it for 11 bucks plus postage. Try getting that service at that price ANYwhere else. FYI - Grabow customer service: (336) 372-5521 (Monday - Thursday); talk to Deb...she is so nice. Tell her JoeMan sent you.

Thanks to a kind member here I have a few grabow pipes now. I smoked one yesterday, but I smoke so infrequently and I've now got so many pipes it's hard to keep them in good rotation.

I've got several older Grabows from the 50-60's that I got in some "thrift" stores...great smokers once they were cleaned up. Bought as good as my Comoys and GBDs as far as smoking qualities...they are the old ones and had good wood for a basis...not all that thrilled with their stems on the other hand.

Being one of the resident Grabowholics I have several, some of the older models and some new. Haven't had a bad experience with any of them.

I have about three or four old ones. I prefer older pipes, and the Dr. G's are always in my rotation.

I still have a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke prince from the 60s and a newer Royalton bent bulldog. Both are fine smokers.

I'm down to about 18. I've had Grabow-itis a couple of times, with collections @150 pipes, but realized 26 Omega's, 14 Free hands, and numerous vintage examples was a bit much.

I typically avoid pedestrian pipes from Dr. Grabow, Kaywoodie, Yellow Bowl etc. (This is not to say they do not make good smokers). However, some of these manufacturers have hidden gems that tweak my interest. It is simply a matter of preference. PS Like Dramatwist, a good part of my reasoning has to do with aesthetics.

My goto pipe is my Grabow Savoy. My wife picked it out for me, and I love the feel of it.It's just the right size to grab a quick smoke when I'm out and about, light and comfortable in the hand and bite.It is a carved straight billiard with a saddle bit.I have found several Willards with the same cut and design, but they just don't have the same feel.

I enjoy my older Grabows with screw in bits and stinger removed. The classic shapes fit my needs very well. They hold enough tobacco to give a fairly long smoke and still be portable clenched between my store bought teeth. The Ajustomatic feature is a big plus in keeping the stem aligned. Well aged briar with the drilling usually spot on. Maybe not fancy but I don't know of a more dependable and consistently good smoker than a Dr. Grabow. I have smoked them for a lot of years and don't have one complaint. I am a big fan of the Dr. as I guess you can tell.

Most Grabows are great smoking pipes. I guess what it come down to is if you want a good smoking pipe, or a good looking pipe. If a pipe is a great smoker, I'll take it anytime over a great looking one. If it is really that bad looking, perhaps it could be refinished. (Just MYHO).

I like Dr. Grabow pipes, both old and new. Some of their newer designs are very interesting. I am a bit more partial to Kaywoodie on the new pipe side though.
I have 3 estate Grabows today, and they are great for quick smokes.
