I admire someone who does such amazing work for just the pleasure of creating something so beautiful.. Thank you sir, your very kind but, I also do it out of selfishness, self gratification that I've created something I can be at least some what proud of. That and to be completely truthful, money in my pocket if not for a little while. Most of what I make on a pipe goes right back into materials and some tools. Vicious circle.

Here's one of the ones I restored and custom painted about 8 years ago, it's a 1945 Emerson 12" (diameter of blades) oscillator. I don't restore vintage and antique fans anymore cause there just to heavy for me to work with nowadays but, enjoyed it when I could.

Nice ... That's as "cool" as it gets! We have an old GE fan in Military Green from the WWII era and named it Doug ... not sure why.

I want one of those old fans. So much better looking than the plastic crap they make these days. I think I need to go do some hunting.

Thank you sir, I've done a few of the ones you speak of in oscillating and non. This one is a 1915 non-oscillator. It does almost look black in the photo but, this color does that in the right lighting, it's really British Racing Green.

I've had fans dating back to the early 1900's that still ran without doing anything to them. Although most are made of cast iron until the late 50's when they turned to sheet and pot metal. Purchasing one restored properly can be pretty pricey. Mine use to sell anywhere from $300 - $1000 depending on size, make and model. You must be very wary of who you deal with and how it was restored. I've seen some that were rattle canned and the insides never touched and parts used that never came with the original fan, so do your research OR you can PM me and I can point you to reputable restorer's.

Jesus. Yeah, I guess anything like that will end up being a bit on the pricey side.
I will touch base with you when I'm ready. I would trust you over dealing randomly with anyone else.

Here's a place to do a little research, many here are over priced, some aren't even properly restored and some unrestored as-is pieces may be had reasonably. As always buyer beware. Fan Auctions Also, prices have gone up a bit on some pieces since I was a restorer/collector 5-8 years ago.

Wow, that´s what I call a different kind of "fan club"! Too bad there are still so many nice and expensive things in this world we would like to have.

I have one like the Black One, no gold blades though. Was driving with wife on a Sunday afternoon and looked on the side of the road , Old House way up the way, long driveway. Big pile of trash by the road , fan on top, pulled to the side and told the wife Get that Fan, she went, screw out of oscillater arm was missing. Found an old screw in my tool box, plugged it in and it worked , 4 speeds I believe, pushes a lot of air.

Yeah, it's hard to beat and old fan, there like a Timex, "They take a lick'en and keep on tick'en".

Being in the industry for years now I dare to differ: Timex are cr*p! I am sure the fans are much better in quality.

The joke back in the day was they strapped a Timex on an Elephants penis and after mateing, Took a Licking , Kept on Ticking, hope they washed it before selling it,

We had them run over by cars or smashed through windows in the ads. The were displayed in a perspex tube filled with bubbling water in the deparment stores. In the end they were cheapo watches, never meant to be services or repaired. One good and early example what marketing can do.

I wholeheartedly agree guys, it was just a saying that use to mean something. Although the older ones in my day, 60's and 70's they held up pretty good to my abuse. Nowadays it's a different story, everything is made to wear out within weeks or months and we never get our money's worth out of most. That's half the reason I very seldom purchase anything new except what I have to...........like food and then it's a leap of faith.

I am a Timex fan myself. They have been bringing back a lot of the old styles. Inexpensive, sharp looking. If you have 2 or 3 in rotation, they don't get beat up to bad.

Strange how this thread started out about the Pipes I make, then went to Fans I use to restore and is now on Timex watches. Given a few more weeks no telling where it might be.

Hahaha, that was I was thinking too Ron!
To clarify thing about Timex a bit: Back in the heyday (1970ies) Timex were junk-watches, not meant to be repaired. Today they have the usual, good quality you would expect from any utility quartz watch. It´s not a luxury watch but I am sure they are worth their price.

Well, I must have been lucky, never had a Timex quartz watch, they all were wind up and they lasted me a good time and kept good time for me. Granted they were cheap but, then I still felt lucky to even own a watch. Nowadays I have no use for one and depend on the time piece hanging on the wall.
