Question for the Patch. I've had some GLPease Gaslight sitting around for a while but just broke into it to start smoking it. I'm finding it a strange texture unlike any other baccy or cake. Kind of tissuey with bits of rubbery leaf and a lot of stems. Very hard to keep lit, even after I dry it some. Is that normal for this tobacco, or do I just have a weird batch?

I've had the same experience, Perry, but don't know the answer.

Same experience but I love the stuff. I slice it and crumble it a little and then let it dry for a while. A long while. Sometimes it's hard to get it going, but once lit, it stays lit (most of the time).

Yeah, mine is like that too. I kinda like it though, feels really different breaking it up.

Make sure it’s a bit drier than most of your other tobacco’s, works well for me👍

Same here, but not a problem... I use a manual herb grind to the desired texture and then let dry for about 1/2 hour - burns evenly and tastes great...

Thanks fo the feedback and confirming. I'm rubbing out first, then picking out the stems, then using scissors to cut up those little rubbery leaves. It's a bit of work, but certainly tasty stuff. Easier ti do when you're sitting at home and relaxing with nothing better to do. I may work through a bunch of it and then throw it in a jar.

My experience was identical to yours, Perry. Troublesome blend, but an interesting one.

I was wondering if a person really enjoyed this blend, that, could you open a couple of tins and place the contents into a wide-mouth one pint Ball jar, and let it sit open for an hour. Then repeat this daily for a while or maybe repeat weekly until the right moisture level was reached? Just a thought. I know its tough having to even think about drying a blend prior to placing it into your bowl and setting flame to it. One would think that when you purchase a tin, you really want to dig-in to it, let alone having to wait while the darn blend dry's to a desired moisture level to burn. Thought I'd throw that in there

Most moist tobaccos placed on a paper towel and microwave for 10 seconds does well for me...a lot of moisture bleeds off into the paper...looks like your tobacco took a piss.

Took one plug and cut it, rubbed it out, and put it in a Mason jar. It came in at over 85% RH at 70º, and i like my tobacco ca. 65% RH. I leave the top off for a few hours, check its moisture, top on overnight to stabilize, and repeat. I have to use a hygrometer as my touch cannot gauge moisture within any reasonable range. One reason to dry down lots of tobacco: it's really ready when you are to load a bowl.

FWIW I use the microwave trick like trailboss suggests, and it works well for me too. I also use a coffee grinder for flakes and longer ribboned tobacco - I try to make it more Carter Hall-like.

This thread reminds me of some of the old McClelland Dark Star threads. I believe some folks compared it to trying to light small pieces of rubber.
