I survived my first pipe show and adopted 5 new pipes and some tobacco. I met DAVEINLAX at the door and he pointed out Lestrout and we chatted a little while and I got a glimpse of Scott W and he vanished. I ran into a fellow member of the Pittsburgh pipe club and he introduced me to some other folks he knew and we all went to The Railroad cigar shop. Had a great time.

I was with a group of fellow pipe smokers and they were talking about the Frog Morton blends and I said I never tried them. One of the fella's came over and handed me 2 tins and said that I couldn't say I never tried them. I was shocked and grateful and have a new friend in the pipe smoking community.

I survived my first pipe show and adopted 5 new pipes and some tobacco. I met DAVEINLAX at the door and he pointed out Lestrout I worked the door for Richard in place of the late show Co Chair Sam Barnett (RIP) and was on the lookout for you and Zoro. Thanks to you and everyone who took the time and made the effort to attend and especially for you staying at the Wyndham. It looks like you had a great day and I'm guessing by staying you found out that IMO the best part of a show happens in the smoke filled rooms before and after the show!
We had a good week and fulfilled our sightseeing, shopping and dinning goals Tues, Weds and Thursday. I got very lucky that two sold out seats next to us were unclaimed and I had some much needed elbow room for 6 hours of Broadway on Wednesday. Friday the guys arrived and we had a great time together until the room broke up early Sunday morning. I picked up a few things including some tobacco and a pipe that I swapped for a hub cap! It's a lot of driving but we had a great time and mrslax is already planning on next year.

I went. The last NY Pipe Show that I attended...Sailor Man Jack was still with us. Guys worry about shrinkage.....well, the show sure has shrunk in size. Attending population and vendors still quite friendly, but instead of three large rooms filled up by world-wide manufacturers, traders, pipe-vendors, accessory sellers, and dozens of tables filled with any and all kinds of tobaccos and estate pipes, now, sadly, there was only one smallish room. I walked through the show in less than two hours, and I did it slowly. I feel sorry for the younger pipe smokers....they don't know what they've missed.
But, I did have a great time, and met some of the old-timers that I remember from the meetings of the New York Pipe Club. Vendors were very pleasant, and attending gents were all polite. Of course, no Smoker's Lounge...but, you could smoke all you want, in the windy parking lot. Between bridge tolls, entrance fees, lunch, gas, etc....not a cheapo day but I was fine with all that.
I hate going to shows and returning home with nothing. But, I managed to buy a very small, Group-1 size, estate-Charatan Belvedere squat-Rhodesian/Acorn smooth, dark finish. A nice diminutive pipe for relieving that quick-smoke jones. No regrets, either. I loved the little, almost novelty-size, pipe.
I've never attended any other pipe shows so I can't compare the NY show to the Chicago show, etc. Everything changes over time...so did I....but it was nice to revisit my old haunts for a nostalgic look-see.
As noted above...I feel sorry for the younger pipe-smokers. NYC used to have some great pipe shows, gun/knife shows, and was once a haven for affordable pipes and tobacco stores. It's almost all gone.... and so are many other wonderful things that I took for granted when I was a younger man. I'm grateful that NYC still HAS any pipe shows at all. The FDA made its new rules known as I learned from some of the tobacco "vendors". But I managed to also get samples of some great tobaccos...thanks to Wilkes, Lane Ltd, and P. Stokkebye. Wilkes' No. 515 is great stuff.
Thanks NYC Pipe Club......for continuing the tradition.

I went. The last NY Pipe Show that I attended...Sailor Man Jack was still with us. I never got to experience Jack at full song at the NY Pipe Convention but I met him and got of a taste of his spiel at a NASPC show before he passed away.
All the pipe shows I attend are a shadow of what they were years ago but thanks to Richard Esserman, the NY Pipe Convention continued after Sam Barnett sadly passed away last year. Thankfully Rich is able to get a block of smoking rooms for the show that we enjoyed for two great smoke filled days and nights together.

I have a room booked and I hope things work out again. I will know more next week. Things seemed to have worked out and the "Action Pac" is ready of another 6 days on the Jersey Shore. We're planning on heading out Monday for Newark/NYC. Just have to get though Mrslax's travel enticement of 5.75hrs of Hairy Pothead, The Cursed Child Parts 1$2 on Broadway for two smoke filled nights with guys who understand an share my "Passion for Pipes". Sounds like a great trip, Dave. 👍
