Georges Simenon was rarely seen without a pipe in his mouth (he's supposed to have owned over 300) and in that pipe was usually Royal Yacht tobacco. Here's some photos of him smoking and also some of the actors who portrayed Maigret in the movies.

Most of you won’t remember James Whitmore , he was an avid pipe smoker that enjoyed English blends and the original ERR. I remember James Whitmore. "Them", "Battleground", "Nuts", "Shawshank Redemption", "Asphalt Jungle". BTW, his photo hangs on the wall of more than one NMSP station. picture hosting sites

www.pipesetbouffardes.com/page115.htm I can't say that I've read or even have all of his books because he was Protean in his prolific writings, but I'm a fan of Simenon. Incredible webpage that one. I didn't realize that the great Michel Simon played Maigret. My favorite is Jean Gabin, although he made only three films, of which I have the first two. Amusing to see those photos in which Simenon is showing the prospective Maigrets how to hold the pipe like his fictional creation. Thanks for sharing.

I've only seen the two seasons on Amazon Prime starting Michael Gambon. I liked the episodes.

Just read about Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull. A documentary was made about him in 1986 and he can be carrying and smoking his pipe in several segments.
