If you were going to setup a new B&M store and wanted to carry the greatest selection of bulk blends in nice glass jars, what would you select to cover the Aromatics, English, Va/Per, Balkan, etc?
I think 1Q would be mandatory.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I know I'd have PS:Proper English and Squadron Leader as English blends. Sticking my face in those jars at the B&M on my first day as a real pipe smoker will be something I never forget. The glass clouded dark brown..

Plum Pudding Special ReserveSmokey, sweet and pure greatness. But, its not distributed nor priced as a bulk blend. Sure would be nice though and after all, this is a dream right?

PS Navy, twist, and bullseye. Newminster 400. Sutliff Virginia slices and 515 RC.
RED ODESSA, Arango Balkan Supreme, PS Proper English, and Sutliff Voodoo Queen.
For aros I'd have to go with 1Q. Even though I cant smoke it, it's a good seller. I'd go with Sutliff Sunset Rum and Queen Anne's Revenge. Wilke Rumcake as well.
RR Match
Billy Budd Blonde, Epiphany
I went with readily available ones that were the first ones that came to mind.

I would say that a load of bulk Germains wouldn't go amis.

Tough one since McClelland is no more but all the suggestions above are top shelf. I know Charlie already listed Sam Gawith St. James Flake which is a favorite here. I'd add Sam Gawith Best Brown Flake to that one. I have a couple jars of that one from 2012 or 2013, can't remember without checking, but it's killer bulk.

Not much more to add on what blends to include but one thing I would do if I owned a B&M would be to take a virginia bulk (FVF would be ideal) or other blend that knowingly betters with age and offer it fresh and offer it aged (say 1 or 2 years). Put a limit to how much one can buy of the aged at a time as the point would be to educate your patrons on what something would taste like with some age on it and how it differs when fresh. Maybe set aside a set amount every month out of the fresh supply and mark it with next years date. It goes on the counter at the beginning of that month next year with a limit to 1 or 2 ounces a customer. If it runs out before the end of the month you wait till the beginning of next month to crack the next jar. If it does not run out then the next person can buy unlimited quantity of whats left (I have a feeling you would have a slew of regulars who would watch this like a hawk).

I don't have the broad knowledge of bulks to ad anything here, but I would ask anyone opening a B&M to please carry C&D, GLP and Macbaren HH flakes all in bulk. And if you age them, as suggested above, even better.

Semois. I don't care what else is there. Every piper needs to try Semois at least once in their lives. If they're like me, they'll probably fall in love with it.

No, but a friend asked me what would be the most desirable blends to walk up to, knowing that they would be enticed into buying something, instead of just looking at the labels and walking away and not being attracted to the normal ho-hum aromatics most B&M stores have.

Try to attract as many customers as possible.

Only carry highly desirable blends that have a very high rating and eliminating lots of mediocre blends that simply take up valuable retail space and a long time to get rid of.
