I will preface this by saying I am a 1-2 bowls a day piper tops (outside of rare occasions). There are occasional days I have none, but its getting rarer and rarer.
I have come to realize that the time and place where the enjoyment of any blend really stands out the most to me is on my morning commute. I can't get over how good every smoke is on the way into work. It can't just be the coffee as I have coffee with the pipe at other times/locations. It can't just be the first pipe in the morning as I have morning pipes at home some times. It can't just be the car because I usually have one on the way home as well.
Another thing I should note as well is that I am a morning person. Don't always get up early and do love to sleep in when I can, but once I am up I love everything about the morning.
I am sure it has to be the combination of all factors. A known time window with a fresh pallet and fresh mind enhanced with a fresh mug of coffee while listening to my current audiobook.
I am usually bouncing between a handful of blends and rarely the same blend twice in a row but some days I do have the same blend in my morning and afternoon commutes. On those days it is even more apparent as the afternoon bowl just doesn't zing quite like that morning one did.
I am continually blown away by how good that pipe ALWAYS is.

I get it! My first pipe of the day is always the best. Why? I haven’t a clue and I don’t try to analyze, I just enjoy.

I'm sort of like that. I generally smoke twice a day--in the morning with coffee, and late afternoon before dinner. Not sure why.

atison I'm a morning person myself, and always have been. Not a biggy to jump out of bed at 4:30am and start the day (it was 3:00am back when I was working full-time). I think our body, senses, and faculties are more aware, alert, and on-point during the morning times. Some sense of adrenaline is on the ready. I would think this would be the case with you (even more so) while driving to work with a pipe loaded with your favorite blend and a cup of Joe. Then again, it can be as above (sans the commute) and sitting on the patio, enjoying a hellacious crisp morning at sunrise, listening to the morning getting itself together, and the aroma of your favorite blend, wafting from the top of your bowl and placing you in the zone. Enjoy your morning pipers

I came back to this thread because I have never really thought about it--but now I have. I decided that mornings are a quiet time before the start of the day, so a bowl of tobacco at daylight is ideal--quiet and I do not feel guilty about not hopping to my chores for the day immediately. Same in the evening. I have finished my work and reward myself with some quiet time for reflection--and a bowl of tobacco. Interesting topic....

Seems like the planets align on your morning commute.

I do find myself enjoying the pipe more in the morning as well. The quiet of the morning is a big deal. It allows me to have the clear conversation you need to have with yourself to prepare the days adventure. It’s still a slow enough point in the day to appreciate your pipeload and start out with some positive energy.
Im sure it is a lovely addition to a morning commute, I get too much anxiety driving in traffic for long periods of time. Good luck out there! 👊🏼

Good luck out there! 👊🏼 I find when I have a pipe that I tend to drive less aggressive and give way more. Mainly because I look for any way to extend my commute but also the relaxed state the pipe puts me in.

My smokes are usually late afternoon/evening. However on weekends I do enjoy an easy morning smoke.

If we feel optimistic and look forward to prospects, then we are usually morning people. The trip to work, i.e., being on the move towards something, reinforces these feelings I think. The enjoyment that the pipe gives becomes an objective correlative of these moments, almost a catalyst, if you will.

Seems I always has a pipe hanging from my lips, but after 50 plus years I still look forward to that first morning pipe.......with coffee when my BP is stable. To this day when it’s time to open a new tin, for some reason I get a feeling like I’m headed down another journey.......it’s one of those feelings only a pipe smoker would understand I guess. How one of your favorite blends smoke so much better in a Cob than one of your expensive briars is a good example.
It’s not the look of a particular pipe, it’s the mechanics and type of materials used that can make one of your blends “ sing “ every time👍👍👍 That’s why I have certain pipes dedicated to a particular genre of tobacco, I actually made a list on paper, as well as mentally.

I get up at 5:00am before dawn and the wife leaves at 5:30. Often I smoke out back in the dark on the bulkhead listening to the wind and the water. Just me and the dog and pipe while the world slowly turns.

My favorite pipes are on Saturday and Sunday morning. I'm a morning person, normally up and going by 530. On Saturday and Sunday mornings I grab a cup of coffee and head out to the shed to just sit and smoke and listen to the world around me wake up and start its day as well. That is MY time, by myself with no interruptions.
I smoke 3-5 pipes a day during the week. The first one is always the one I look forward to. Its normally in my glove box waiting on me to get off work. Although, it is no comparison to the weekend morning pipe.

My special smokes are in the cab of the truck “on delay” waiting for the shipper to prepare the shipment to move... typically on overtime... getting paid to smoke my pipe listening to Sirius, surfing the net. Like now.
Picking up naval weapons now on delay.. so I am helping our troops also.
It is a special time for me.
