So I went to the store to pick up a few things and figured I would pick up some Valentine treats for the kids and flowers for the wife. I figured red roses, it's traditional I know but they usually work for Valentines. They were selling for $99 to $150 for a dozen red roses. You know how much tobacco I can buy for that. She got a bouquet of mixed flowers for $20 and was quite happy with it. Maybe I am out of touch, but I do not remember red roses costing so much.

Sad to say, they’ve been that way for a long time. I buy them once a year for my wife and stick to other arrangements otherwise.

Most of the year I can get a dozen for $20. Tomorrow it will be $75 plus

I’m fortunate, my wife never wants flowers. She would be very satisfied with just a nice card and some Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. She is a marvel to behold.

Just plain greed...flowers particularly red roses are not that expensive...they are just trying to pull in as much $$ as they can...no excuse for it...when they are only a couple bucks for 1 with heather or other greenery around it.

Tomorrow night we will dance to our two favorite songs, “ It Will Always Be” sung by Willie Nelson and “Look At Us” sung by Vince Gill. This will take place in our living room and she will get a nice card and some Reeses Cups. We both will have tears as we dance as we re-affirm our love for each other.

Heart warming AJ! I hope the 2 of you have a wonderful night.
Roses go up about 200-400% the week of Valentine's Day. Any other time of the year I can walk into the flower shop, buy 12 red roses, with a vase, and spend under $30. $40 if I want them delivered.

I quit buying flowers decades ago, as seeing them wilt away 4 days later is depressing for both of us.

I get little cane checks about every 3 months, give them to wife to play bingo and have spending money. Asked her what she wanted for Valentines, she said 2 new led motion sensor lights, when I come back from bingo the old ones don't light up. So next week I'm repaceing 2 ceiling fans, old age got em, so I'll ask the Electrican to bring 2 new floodlights, I don't climb ladders anymore.

glad my Mrs not a flowers person, at least at those prices. Would be happy if, after spring arrives, a little collection from back yard garden. ( she had 4 kids in 6 yrs, all planned, but the father abandoned 'em. Little if any $$ support taught her to be thrifty). Like me, pays her credit card off every month in full. Any further comments to be considered "politics" so keepin' those thoughts to meself)!

I am happy how easy it is to please most young women in thailand. A dinner for two for about 15-20 dollars and maybe a dozen orchids for a dollar fifty (flowers- especially orchids are still very cheap in thailand!)
If you're running overboard into debt because you're overspending with your southeast Asian girlfriend, it's a sign somethings generally terribly wrong.
Ive been taken for short rides that came home empty-handed before. Many times. Sometimes you just need to live and learn the hard way. My love life is great now. But it took me awhile to get here.

Actually, tomorrow the 15th is the best day of the year to buy flowers or candy. All you have to do is train your wife that she will get lots more for much less.
Be sure you understand how your wife works, before you try this. The results could be dangerous.

Right after Valentines and Easter my a1c is not in a good state of affairs for this very reason, I am sure.

Be sure you understand how your wife works, before you try this. The results could be dangerous. That's what I do sometimes. We don't celebrate V day, but sometimes on the 15th I buy the left-over roses normally for about £2 for a dozen at the local supermarket.

I'm taking Shweetie out to eat tomorrow night at Olive Garden. I'm not nuts about the place, but she loves it, and that's what matters.

I got a dozen long stem roses from Albertsons... $20.00 on the 13th..and they are pretty nice looking. I checked out 1-800 flowers that the radio talk show hosts were touting, but even with their “special discount word”, delivered to rthe door was $70.
My wife likes flowers, but she would rather not have them when they get to that price... she is pretty frugal about such things, and does not want any jewelry.
A great practical gift, is a certificate to a nail salon... women love pedicure treatments.
What shocked me is the price of Valentine cards... $8-$10 for most.
I always buy the flowers on the 13th, because at least on weekdays I am long gone before she wakes up.

These are the days I’m soooooooo happy I have no significant other in my life now.....and for ever more👍👍👍 I felt the way you do. However, I got drawn back in. I was just on a simple holiday. I'd more or less written off romance in my life as being nothing but repeated cheap fabrications. I was going to go and buy myself a retirement visa and just enjoy the cheap food all winter long. Then.. I met someone I really bonded with. She won me over by showing me real love. The kind I've never seen or felt before. Accidental, fatal attraction. Those are always the best romances.

But the recovery should be smooth and not as protracted as I thought. The hernias, well, that was a guarantee as well anyway. The mental side of it is just half the battle physically right there. I was able to reset my depression with some deep healing transcendendal meditation. My health still is not good but I am dealing with it. I still feel the same way. Take me, Lord, when you see fit. I have someone in my life now, though. If at all possible, I'd like to hang out for just a tad longer to be with her.

You can thank the greeting card companies for that, you know the ones who invented the cockamamie day to begin with to boost there sales. Now every woman wants something on that day no matter how broke we are. I say its hog wash and it should be abolished. What ever happen to spontaneity or isn't that often enough for the women or big business? Hey, Don't get me wrong, I Love Women but, we certainly don't need a fricken holiday to remind us to show it, especially how it's become expected and demanded by many women nowadays. I say if they want it that way we should pass a law that Everyone has to be married on the 14th of February and no other day. That way they get there flowers or what ever on that day every year and we don't have to try and remember our anniversary date.

On a local news program Ron, they reported that values are changing...Millennial men expect women to spend more on them than the reverse. Maybe you should get some skinny jeans, a lumberjack shirt and a man bun, and go clubbing.

You have MUCH to live for, be more positive 👍👍👍 Yes we are going to stay in Udon Thani for a month once my procedures are done in April/May. She has been nothing short of wonderful to me and my family. I've never been respected as a person by any of my dates until I met this lovely lady. My "relationships" have all been so callously fake or just full of blatant disregard for me. I've been so female crazy my whole life that I've just put up with it. I went for beauty, not for the heart. Very foolish. Bad women will just run right over top of you if you let them. I finally stood up for myself a few years ago and threw the really bad wife out. Now you're right.. I have a really awesome retirement to look forward to in Northern Thailand with a beautiful woman who adores me. I have a lot to be thankful for.

Valerie and I rarely give each other gifts and never on "standard" holidays. We were crazy about each other when we were in high school, then lost touch for 45+ years. Now we feel like our gift to each other is being together.
