I just saw this note from P&T's editor:
Gentlemen, I have recently realized through a FB conversation that the fantastic website Tobacco Reviews is in danger of folding now that Pipes and Tobaccos Magazine is closing up. In a panic I emailed the site and got this response :
"Unlike the magazine, this web site actually makes money, and thus commands market value. Here's hoping someone will buy it and continue it.
I await developments, like everyone else. There's nothing we can do about any of it, except wait and see. Stay tuned! Cliff Nelson admin, tobaccoreviews.com"

Any way for you to retrieve your own reviews, Jim...would hate to see all that disappear.
Yours are about the only ones worth keeping for those who wish to have a thorough understanding of a particular tobacco blend.

Who owns your reviews Jim, you or TR? I believe you looked into publishing them book form, but it was complicated?

I keep that website open in a browser window at all times. I enjoy reading about different tobaccos and like to compare what I'm tasting in comparison to others. At times I know I can taste something different but cant pinpoint it. Jim, you have done excellent reviews on that site. I really hope that it stays open. I would hate to see all of your work, along with some others, just disappear. I can only imagine the amount of time you have put into it.

I keep all of my reviews on a rtf file on my desktop. I know better than to trust keeping them on the internet alone.
I own my reviews. Nobody else does. And, I've never seriously considered a book of my reviews. It'd be a ton of work and a bit of money to do it, and I don't believe I'd sell enough copies to make it profitable for what I'd have to put in to it.

Since they say it's profitable maybe a bigger, pipe oriented company will pick it up and just leave it as is.
Laudisi maybe? Then again, I realize that profits come from ads. I'm sure ads for competition companies just wouldnt work out. Scratch that idea.

If I had the money, I would certainly save that site. I wonder if the tobacco retailers, STG, pipes magazine or other related businesses can step in and take over, that is so long as they maintain the webpage's integrity. PS roadsdiverged I am not trying to be redundant, just simply supporting your general trend of thought.

Magazines have really become a labour of love. If the big publishers aren't turning some kind of dime, they're not printing anymore. Sad, but thats the way things are going.
Several of my favourite horror yarns have managed to stay alive for a year or two only because of an editor who simply didn't have the heart to close the magazine. Selling off huge collections of movie memorabilia, cars, etc, just to keep it going.
The internet has been a lot of bad and a lot of good. Theres really no other way to look at the technology, when you observe it from its entire historical perspective, with all of the social and society intricacies the web has brought with it, through the decades.
Of course, its nice to be able to shoot the crap about pipes at 6 AM with you fine gentlemen.

That place is a time sink that I will miss horribly. I sincerely hope someone steps in and picks it up.

IIRC, a loooooong time ago- long in internet time- I could download an entire site and store it on my computer. It may be possible today, but I do not know.
Anyone?

JimInks , any idea what price they are asking? I was thinking the same thing Justin. Maybe its a piece of the business they do not want to be involved with and would let it go...

JimInks, you could try an online publishing of it a s a reference. You could pay for it by offering subscriptions. I would certainly subscribe. Do you own the copyright to it?

That is tragic news, especially with all the work you've put into it, JimInks - not in the reviews themselves, but in the correction. sparks, are you thinking of having it as a Patch enterprise? Would be a nice pairing...especially if they let it go for free.
