Well, i tried mixing the ODF with 15 and 21 % perique by weight this time, which isn't much, considering the weight difference with the moisture level of perique. It still has a musty flavor, and doesn't give that figgy note like It does with lat blends. I'm concluding that ODF just doesn t mix well with perique, somehow incompatible. Oh well.

I’m sorry your experiment didn’t pan out. I wonder how it would be if you increased the amount of Perique to say 40%? I’ve found when using strong blend it takes substantially more Perique to compliment the blend. If you have already tried this then I am at a loss as to why your experiment turned out tasting musty. As I am not a Perique fan, I'll smoke the ODF without. However, I think AJ's suggestion makes sense as ODF is pretty deeply flavored and you'd need a bit more to identify it when smoking.

Well, my first trial was about 20% by volume, which was about 45% by weight. The taste issue wasn't that I couldn't taste it, but it was sharp and musty.

Just wondering if your Perique tastes ok when mixed with other blends? Yes it does. That eliminates bad Perique. One must assume ODF and Perique doesn’t work. I’m kind of disappointed because I would like ODF much better if by adding Perique I could taste more sweetness like the fig and raisin notes from Perique. A real bummer! AJ
