All dogs are great dogs...the only problem is the short life span...wish they could live 25-30 years at least...wouldn't have to put up with so much pain when they go.

Something was definitely wrong with that Pomeranian of mine. He was basically a small, yellow Cujo. Several people had to have stitches because of him. The veterinarian said that he thought he might have brain damage from birth. I don't think so. I think the dog had a bit of the devil in 'im.

The two in my avatar are our current dogs. They are brothers from consecutive litters. Their father is a Yorkie and their mother a Poodle/Schnauzer mix, so they are truly mutts. The gal where we bought them said they were Schnorkies, as if that meant something. The older and chubbier is Deacon, the younger and skinnier is Parson. They are good dogs in all sorts of ways. Deacon is now five years old and Parson is seven months behind. They are trouble, but as someone once told me, anything worth having is trouble.
Prior to these dogs we had a beagle and a miniature dachshund. The beagle lived for around 8 years and the dachshund 14 - they were wonderful dogs as well.
Prior to that, we were cat people, in spite of my wife's allergies. Our kindergarten age daughter brought home a kitten she found on the walk from school - all of 1/2 a block - and that cat lived for 12 years with us. Then it was on to the beagle.

I've had dogs that were vicious...they were made that way by people who were just as vicious as their dogs...they should have been put down not the dog....some of the pitbulls that were trained by that NFL player some years ago...those dogs when brought into a different environment became the kind of dogs that they were supposed to be...sweet and trusting even though their background was dog fighting...people like that are sick and should be put down themselves....not their dogs.

I believe that there was a very good reason why our second Yorkie was in the pound. Should have left him there. My wife was at the pound 2 hours before they opened and there was a line behind her. If we were luckier, she would have over slept. On the day we got our Lacey, she wanted to sleep in. I made her get up and we drove 200 miles to get our pick of the litter and were driving away as the next couple pulled up.

Australian Cattle Dogs. Respectively - Sophie, 14 years old RIP: Zach, 16 years old RIP: Thor, 11 months old. He may be RIP faster than them if he doesn't get with the program - Just kidding. Cattle dogs are open country dogs by nature and it normally takes a couple years to bring them around for house purposes but it's worth the effort.

Some may know the Ninja Chihuahua has been in poor health for over a week she would not eat and was throwing up with diarrhea. I nursed her back to health with Pepto, a tiny dose of 7way horse wormer, small shots of B12 and Tramadol for pain. She seems to be fine now and has been eating and relieving herself without properly with no blood in her stool. Still not sure what she got into although I suspect a sharp piece of chicken bone was the culprit. It feels good to have Daddies protector dog back up to snuff.

Glad the pooch is doing well @psycholime. Chicken bones have tore apart many dogs stomachs.

That dog was nothing but pure stupid. How I kept him for 2 years is beyond me. I'd get up in the morning and before I could even get out of bed he would be pissing on my feet...on the bed. This is no lie, he was the worst dog I've ever met. You could take him out for 4 hours and walk him, play with him, run him, let him do his business and then take him in. Within 30 minutes there would be a pile, or a puddle, somewhere. Thinking of that dog raises my blood pressure. I remind my ex wife all the time about her comment "I want him, hes cute." Yeh right... that dog took 10 years off of my life. I do love dogs, more than people... just not THAT dog.

Beagle, Peekapoo, Border Collie/Chow mix, Brittany Spaniel, American Eskimo, Rescued mutt. We lost the Brittany and Esky within months of each other. That was traumatic. Our little mutt Bailey is special. Not entirely sure of what she is, other than all dog. She was a rescue from an adoption outfit. She is a sweet girl. She kills voles, mice, garter snakes and chases squirrels. Pretty good for a 15lb doggie.

I owned many dogs in my lifetime, but lucky enough to own a Labrador, Cairn Terrier, Brindle Boxer and a Chihuahua. All were highly intelligent dogs, listened to my commands, never had to be walked on a leash. Would never leave my side, even when another animal was in sight. All my dogs slept in bed with me, any woman I was dating at the time understood how it was, the majority was fine with the situation.
Right now I take care of my ex’s dog, a stubborn Yorkie that’s set in her ways. Use to relieve herself at times all over the house, no longer since I’ve been staying here. My ex is annoyed that “ her “ dog only responds to me now. She never trained the dog properly, your dog can not be led to believe he/she is the alpha in the pack. No more accidents in the house👌👍👍

My family always had cats and I loved them, but later in life my wife and I wanted a dog. The first was a largish Chihuahua called Booger. He died at 13 years from complications from pancreatitis and cushings. He was a great hunting dog for squirrels and loved the sound of a gun. Then we got our current dog Idgee, another largish Chihuahua. He's 10 now and a really sweet dog, but hates loud noises. He's gaining a little weight now because of my wifes OCD (obsessive Chihuahua disorder), for which there seems to be no cure. Booger Idgee

A Chihuahua has a small head, therefore a small brain....one would think. I’ve personally found with little patience a Chihuahua can be trained fairly easy, highly intelligent and usually becomes very attached to roughly two people they consider part of “ their “ pack. Great family dog without little children, Chihuahua are very fragile!!

"usually becomes very attached to roughly two people they consider part of “ their “ pack. Great family dog without little children, Chihuahua are very fragile!!" Yeah, they are definitely pack oriented....all of ours have been that way...which was why Pierre was so thrilled to finally be part of a pack...it was his pack, and after being homeless for most of his life, he got seriously depressed when 2 of the 5 of us (2 who could actually speak Chihuahua, and those 2 crazy humans who just didn't understand and weren't even house trained......sheesh)finally passed due to health issues...he moped for a couple months and then decided to join his pack over the Rainbow Bridge...now they are all together. After 3 months of tears and depression, we got our "baby". Over Rainbow Bridge "baby"

Our IG, Sophie, is on her last days. She's 13.5 years old. Born during Katrina. Vet says liver cancer, pancreatitus, kidney failure cataracts, and she's deaf. We give her tramadol and gabapentin and she sleeps most of the time. My son is going to be a mess when she finally goes. If he could stand it we would have her put to sleep. She has always been the sweetest, most graceful little dog. Lacy, our Yorkie, is trying to figure out why won't play anymore. 😕😢

From left to right: ~5 year old poodle mix, 3 year old Smooth Fox Terrier with 3 1/2 legs (born that way), and finally my old man, a (now) 10 year old Golden Retriever/Brittany spaniel mix. This photo is from 2 years ago, and he has a lot more grey now.

Living in an apartment, I no longer have a dog, as I don't think it is fair to them. Dogs in my past were: Patsy, a Cocker Spaniel Clyde, a Black and Tan Coonhound Kai, a Keeshaund (poisoned by a sick individual who went abut town, feeding hot dogs to dogs in cars, via an open window). Duke: Black Lab/German Shepard
Still miss them all.
