Found this pipe in a box of estates that I had and cleaned it up. Can someone identify the stem material? I gently cleaned it and am not sure what material it is.

Looks like horn. Thanks Brad, I'm not sure what it is. I got the inside cleaned out and just wiped the outside with soap and water. Whoever had this before sure liked vanilla blends, I took a draw on it after cleaning it and it has a vanilla ghost.

Nice clean-up. That horn stem looks interesting, I imagine pretty tough.

You pipe cleaned up nicely. From the pictures the stem looks like horn. I would say your pipe was made by someone that wanted his creation to last for many years. Horn will last indefinitely.
