Hi. I just came onboard the Briar Patch Wondering if anyone can help me with an issue I am having with a George Jensen Estate pipe I recently purchased for some reason the opening on the bit seems to narrow for a pipe cleaner to slide through. it makes it all the way through the stem right to the mouthpiece but the horizontal slip or opening at the mouthpiece is too narrow for even my thinnest pipe cleaners to get through Perhaps this is done intentionally however I’ve never seen it before

Hello and welcome to the forum. I'm glad you've joined. Come say hi in the 'Welcome' section.
Does the pipe have a lot of cake built up in the bowl? If so, I wonder is the cake narrowing the draught-hole.

The bowl and air passage see fine and unrestricted. I just went to give it e routine cleaning and found it to tight right at the mouthpiece. Even if I try to pass the cleaner through starting at the mouthpiece I cannot get it started I don’t see an actual hole right at the mouthpiece just a horizontal opening let’s say but it is extremely narrow

Some Danish pipes are like that. 2 choices: either just run the cleaner as far it will go then run water thru the draft hole and live with it, or use needle files to widen the slot a bit. That's risky because the button end gets thinner and may get bitten thru.

Thank you. Good suggestion. I do love the pipe otherwise. I may put it up on eBay because I missed the fact that it’s not outfitted for a filter which I feel better with, but didn’t want to pass it on to someone if that was a defect. In the meantime I’ll try your suggestions. Timothy

Sorry, rereading your message I notice I completely misunderstood.
Apologies for my useless answer.

Welcome from the Mile High City! Glad to have you with us. I agree with the recommendation to use a needle file. I had this problem with a Ser Jacopo estate pipe I purchased. The draw was terrible - probably why the previous owner had sold it. I used my drill with a narrow bit and it came out great, but I don't recommend that method. Safer to use a needle file.

Try going to 4Noggins and buying some Falcon pipe cleaners (they are super thin) that should help your problem. Welcome from "The Tarheel State"

Welcome and grab a needle file, open up the draw, save your pipe and enjoy it.

welcome from Florida. I use the pipe cleaners that they sell in the arts section for kids to make projects with they're $2 for a pack of a hundred and there are a foot long. best pipe cleaners you can get they even fit through twin flow stems and you don't get any of the cotton fur sticking inside of the stem

I have a George Jensen Billiard and I like it....Per (pronounced Pear) Jensen, the son of George Jensen and worked in the factory making pipes...he is now a big shot at Mac Baren. I know that Per goes to the Chicago Pipe show, not sure if he goes to any others.
In case you didn't know that.
I hope you can have an easy fix for your issue.

My, thank you all for the welcomes and the great advice. Such interesting information. Think I’ll give the 4 noggins cleaners a try but opening it ever so slightly with a needle file is tempting. Sorry it took a while for me too respond, I got a little lost on the site earlier🙃. I’ll learn to find my way around better I’m sure
