Thanks all. Ended up with a bag of left over .44 shells and after seeing some of the tampers other Patchers had made figured it would be fun to give it a try. And of course could not leave my latest Mark Twain alone so went ahead and modified it. Fun stuff.

Have fun!!!

I've got the shells from my FIL's 21 gun salute that I would like to have that done with one day. Great job.

Outstanding work on both tampers and pipe...ain't it fun? Working on pipes and tampers is my saving grace. I am not a handy person by nature. But playing with the pipes and shaping the tampers is a lot of fun.

What kind of wood did you use for the tampers?

What kind of wood did you use for the tampers? It was Birch. I found shaker pegs, then did initial shaping with my Dremel. Than I used sandpaper to finish it up and stained them. It was a lot of fun.
