I think what's drawn me toward pipe smoking was the humble, old time feel. The likes of which can only be had in an old standby, an old reliable if you will. The art of a pipe too but most of all the feel. What drawwest thou pipes to pipeing?Don't be shy, you've been waiting for this time of explanation so as to fully mull over the fine reason to explain the why of things in regards to try humble pipe begining.

Simple for me. No other way to get the fabulous flavors of good tobacco. Secondarily, I like the fiddly bits about pipe smoking, which is nostalgic.

Besides liking the taste of tobacco I admire the wood grain, how a pipe feels in my hand, the ritual of preparing the pipe for smoking, it allows me to slow down and meditate, the relief from stress, and I get to participate in a family tradition. Just a few reasons why I smoke a pipe.

I started smoking a pipe in 1966. Can't remember why. But I smoke a pipe to this day because I like tobacco smoked in a pipe.

It was the 'old timeyness' of it for me as well. After picking it up, the real pleasure of it grabbed me. Not only the ritual and appreciation for the pipes themselves, but like slowroll said, once you realize how wonderful the tobacco is, there is nothing really that compares to smoking a pipe. Smoking has become a natural part of my day, same as drinking or eating.

I walked into a Tinderbox in 1977...and whoa! The only thing I can relate it to at the time was seeing Olivia Newton John in leather pants in the 1978 release of Grease.
One I could attain, the other, not.

For me it's the smell of the smoke. I love the smell of pipe tobacco smoke. That and the fact that it takes me back to an earlier age (in my imagination).

I will echo the comment that the pipe is the best way to enjoy what tobacco has to offer. Add to that the ritual and the fact that it forces one to slow down and it becomes a necessity for the soul.

For me, it's the smell and the nostalgia. I love the movies from the 40s and 50s when pipe smoking was much more common. I sometimes think I was born 25 years too late, lol.

The joy of peace and tranquility...this is what I get from my pipe. The folks here add to that joy, the feeling of family that pervades this forum....cannot be found in another venue.

I didn't want to be pipe smoker! all the messing and fussing that I didn't want any part of has become daily routine and I like it. I think its the art of the pipe and the beauty the grain not to mention the flavor and smell of the smoke. It relaxes me and makes a long day melt away
