From the first years of Peterson's history– what most collectors like to call the Patent Era– comes this absolutely stunning giant of a pipe, in astonishingly fine condition, yet hallmarked 1913. This pipe in the "Extra Large" size is one of three bowl shapes offered in the two very earliest Peterson catalogs at the turn of the century. This shape they called a "straight", referring to the straight sides of the bowl. Its mouthpiece is a B style.

Kapp & Peterson stamped Patent on Peterson pipes from 1891 to 1915– so strictly speaking these years define the "Patent" era. We have identified Peterson Dublins, like this one, as early as 1906.

With a deep, deep chamber over an inch in diameter, this is definitely a big boy. It features a deep moisture well within the bowl's shank. This specimen has no briar fills or flaws. It is without any significant damage and looks quite like new. One of the most important Petersons I've handled
