There goes a small piece of my childhood. My mother played them in the car all the time. Even watched the show at times in reruns.

Enjoyed the group. If I recollect, when they started their TV show (before they performed ever in concert) they didn't even know how to play instruments. They learned later. They spent many more years performing in Japan after their flair faded in the States. They really loved them over there.

I loved them. They were a fun band. That's what I liked about them.

This song has a lot of Peter in it. It is, without a doubt, my favorite Monkees song. I've never cared for any other one quite like this. It's even more poignant now when I have to decide when to tell the truth or when to lie to Xuan. It is one of the songs that brought the Gentle Voices to me.

never cared for them. Still, The Monkees were a phenomena of the 60s and I wish that Tork rests in peace with condolences to his family.

I, too, never really cared for their music...but they were nice guys and not like many of the other groups that got hung up on themselves. So RIP, Sir...many will miss you.

I really liked their music but thought the TV series a bit silly. I was a teenager at the height of their popularity and now another little piece of my youth is gone. Rest In Peace Peter. Like Davy you will be missed. Thanks for the memories.

Neither did I as by the time that the Pre-Fab Four (or Five?) came out I was following developments in the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors music department. Still, I respect them for trying to break out from their artificial bubble gum straitjacket and make a contribution and their own statement. Rest In Peace.

Never cared for them much and even less when I saw those guitars were not plugged in. Watching people in paisley shirts and bell bottoms running around and blindly smashing their faces into trees and walls just somehow lost its zing halfway through the first episode for me.

That reminds me that I asked a friend who liked them what that nonsense was about, falling out of a closet in unison when someone opened the door and other undercranked-camera hijinks. He replied something like "er... it's supposed to be like, psychedelic...that type of style...yeah, psychedelic...." Yeah, right. That worked better for Benny Hill. At least Benny was doing it for a reason - he was chasing the girls!

He battled cancer for the last 10 years. I'd say a man of determination, who with good medical care, held on as long as he could. RIP.
