So, small confession, I don't have any MM Cobs yet but I am looking at picking up a couple. I am not a filter smoker, and don't generally prefer them. Yes, MM does have plenty of non filtered cobs, but one or two of the filtered ones look really good, and it got me thinking, do you guys and gals filter your cobs or not?

Mostly not, but I have done it with some "truck" tobacco. The pipe doesn't care. Just buy the shape you like and make your own decision.

I use them, as I don't like the wide open draw without them. As I am only interested in the draw properties, I save $ on the cob filters by cutting them in 1/4 sections and a box of 10 becomes 40.

The Cobs that requires a filter I use them because of the draw. I have a number of Cobs where no filters are used.....excellent smokersđź‘Śđź‘Ťđź‘Ť. Good luck on your Cob journey, make sure you get one with the Country Gentleman bowl, it will become your favorite Cob quickly.

Best to try them with different blends to see if you like them.

You don't need filters if you're smoking the reverse calabash cobs. Just sayin'.

You don't have to use filters on the "filtered" cobs. Try it. If you don't like it, use the filters. Not a big deal.

I usually use a filter in my cob, but I use falcon filters. I only use them to catch moisture in the stem from my breath (or drool). They work best (for me) and don't restrict the draw at all...

I always use a medico filter in my cobs. But, I usually use a filter (9mm) in most of my smokes.
I love filters. Keeps moisture to a minimum, and with meerschaum filters, I like the draw.

I don't use them in any of my pipes. I tried them and didn't see any advantage so I figured that it wasn't worth the extra hassle to use them. I like smoking the filter cobs without a filter more than those that don't take a filter.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. For me it depends on the tobacco. This is true with my briars also. The open draw without a filter doesn’t bother me.

I have both filtered and unfiltered cobs. To me the cob filters don't seem to make much of a difference in taste or anything else. Compare those to a 9mm filter in a Vauen or Peterson is night and day. Those things block everything including the flavor.

Non filtered cobber here. Main reason for me is that I don't want another consumable "thing" that I have to buy and fiddle with. I wouldn't use pipe cleaners if it weren't for my pipes tasting like crap if I didn't. I am a keep it simple kind of guy for the most part.
Yes, sometimes I get a wet sloppy mess of a pipe before I am done. I am a clencher and a drooler. It it gets too bad mid way through a smoke I just run a pipe cleaner through the bit.
Like others have said, try them with and without and see what your preference is.

There was a thread quite a while ago that got on the topic of filtered cobs. I had always removed the filters as soon as I got my cobs, so I decided to try them with filters. It was decidedly not for me. Way too restrictive for my tastes. That said, there are many who like the filters, and that's their preference.

I don’t, mostly because I like to be able to use a pipe cleaner. I don’t mind the draw when using one of the filter pipes without it. But my wife likes the Savinelli balsas.

All pipes in my current rotation except my Baki meers are filtered. That having been stated, it's a matter of personal preference. I prefer the Grabow filters in my cobs; others don't. You might even try balsa filters in your cobs; some use them. Experiment and see what works best for you.

I filter my cobs. The filter takes out moisture, not flavor, IMHO.

I do have a couple that are filtered, though most are not. One Rattray's and one Meerschaum. Many say they reduce flavor but I haven't noticed that myself. They do reduce gurgle and moisture in the stem, so that's nice. They are both 9mm filters, and I only use the charcoal variety, not the paper. Not sure what the paper ones do other than suck up some water.

I like them without and like them with. Until it draws bad & wonder why & its cause I forgot to change a clogged/dirty filter. Then I like no filter better.

I use charcoal filters and only use them twice before removing them and replacing them. Any more than that, you're right, they get pretty nasty.

No filters here. I did find a box of filters while cleaning up the other day. I have absolutely no idea where they cane from. I know I didnt order them.
