Having smoked the BEST Balkan ever made for almost 30 years (Balkan Sobranie 759), when it died off almost 20 years ago I thought I'd never find another ! Then about a year ago I found Arrango Balkan Supreme and thought I'd found a Balkan equal to if not nearly the same as my beloved 759! Try some and you won't have a need for any other !!

Try some Balkan Supreme. - just kidding - I'm thinking you'll enjoy that Margate. You might also want to pick up some Esoterica Pembroke which is the same blends with cognac topping. Samuel Gawith blends are also worth exploring. Check out the reviews for Squadron Leader, Skiff Mixture, and Commonwealth. Aaack! Squadron Leader is already on his list. πππ This is fun. Yes...I'm easily entertained. I'm simple that way. π Doh!

A few to try that I believe have not been mentioned.
Hearth & Home Marquee: Magnum Opus Fusilier's Ration
Standard Tobacco Company of Pennsylvania: Bengal Slices John Cotton Smyrna
C&D Engine 99 Pirate Kake etc. etc. There are many others. Like GL Please Quiet Nights etc .

Sounds like you tend to like the mixtures with some oriental in them. J suggest C&D Byzantium, Star of the East has been mentioned, but it needs to be the flake, the ribbon cut is different. You might try C&D Engine 99 as well. Has less oriental, but a very rich taste, i'm the odd man here, IMO Engine 99 is similar to ABS, but more up front !ataxia, I like it better. Captain Earl's Ten Russians is also very good.

I think this thread has given you about 30 tobaccos in the 'English' line. While not exhaustive, should keep you busy for a while. Enjoy them all. That's what I try and do.

I like Father Dempsey very much, as well as H&H White Knight. I have to try Arango Balkan Supreme and some of the other suggestions on this thread as I am partial to English blends as well.Β I see that ABS is out of stock on both SP and P&C! Drat! www.cupojoes.com/arango-balkan-supreme-sold-by-oz/Picked some ABS up at CupOJoeβs, thanks!

Seeing as you enjoyed Gaslight, Iβd recommend some Ten Russians. Also, Samuel Gawith Commonwealth. John Cottons Smyrna is also nice, and since you like orientals I think Presbyterian may be worth a shot too. I guess you should also pick up some Arango Balkan Supreme I suppose. You may have heard of it

I keep meaning to try the Arango myself but since you said that didn't wow you, how about GL Pease Quiet Nights? It's got a bit of perique as well. If it's the Oriental sweet/sour/incense flavors you're after, might try GLP Caravan too. ...you might want to try ABS... I was skeptical, but it is thatΒ good... Stearmandriver Welcome to the βPatch. I canβt believe It, but I have to agree with Dramatwist about ABS over Penzance. It is that good and I was obsessed with Penzance for many years. Some other blends I highly recommend are BlackHouse, and SPC Plum Pudding Special Reserve.

I believe English and Balkan are separate genres. I personally don't care much for the latter but Germain King Charles is an excellent lighter English IMHO.

Lots of great suggestions on this thread, some I have tried, and some I haven't. Some were on my radar screen to try, and some were not, but are now. Thanks to all who contributed and made suggestions. This was very helpful to a newbie such as myself.
I got some Arango Balkan Supreme and a couple of other suggestions ordered from Cup O'Joes.com. Looking forward to trying them.

Wait! I forgot McConnell's Oriental! One of the best.
And I'm not going back to see if it was on the o.p.'s list, so there....

Man if you have already said that Arango Balkan is good but not great, you have only two choices to make... Pirate Kake Black Frigate Order both and review!

Thanks all for some great recommendations. I already had some of the blends mentioned, but helped put them on my English lineup. My objective is to try at least one new English Blend a month until I have gotten through this list (or if one of these blends leads to adding another blend to the list). OF the English Blends I already have: Bengal Slices C&D Super Balkan GLP Westminster
Hearth & Home Black House Hearth & Home Fusilier's Ration
Hearth & Home Magnum Opus Hearth & Home White Knight
John Coton's Smyrna
Margate Peterson's Old Dublin
Plum Pudding Special Blends that I will purchase, as they are available, to add to the lineup: 4th Generation 1882 Drucquer and Sons Blairgowrie Drucquer and Sons Inns Court Drucquer and Sons Red Lion Drucquer and Sons Trafalgar Father Dempsey Germainβs Special Latakia Flake (inspired by King Charles, but like a flake) GLP Blackpoint Penzance Presbyterian Samuel Gawith Skiff Mixture Sutliff Crumble Kake English #1 I'd say this should keep me busy until Spring 2020. Now just have to figure out the order, and get to ordering. Thanks again to everyone.

It's nice to be able to get my hands on this stuff. And often I forget that there are some things that are hard for you to get. It brings a bit of balance to the world. That said, part of my longing to get what you can get is so I can experience what you experience and therefore relate to your experiences... With Germain's tobacco, I'm kinda a loner. ... But I'll still rub your noses in my readily available tobacco. π

I would really appreciate some recommendations from some experienced English Blend lovers. I'm looking for more English Blends that fit my current 'wow' factor.
Blends that I have been 'WOW'd" by are:Β Iwan Ries Gourmet English, Frog Morton On the Town, John Cotton's Number One, Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader, and GL Pease Gaslight.
Blends that I have enjoyed, but seemed to lack that "WOW" factor for me:Β Dunhill Nightcap, SPC Plum Pudding,
I really wasn't a fan of SPC Mississippi River, GL Pease Maltese Falcon, or Dunhill 965. Thought they were OK, but don't plan on buying more tins.
I really enjoy the Savory sweet, smokey, creamy and buttery, and fermented fruit flavors. The Vinegary feeling seems to detract from my enjoyment of English and Balkan blends.
Baltic, you and I seem to have similar tastes. I loved Frog On The Town, John Cotton #1. Not a big fan of Nightcap, 965, Plum Pudding. I'm reading the recommendations with great interest. I might have to order some Gourmet English, and finally crack my tins of Cairo and Gaslight. One that I love and can recommend for you is GQ Tobacco Breakfast Blend. I'm just not sure if it is available any more.

Thanks Yaddy. I did check, and GQ Tobacco Breakfast Blend is no longer available. More bad news is that Gourmet English has also gone the way of Frog Morton (and GQ Breakfast Blend); and is also no longer available (I only have one tin left). If On the Town and Gourmet English were still around, I'd be pretty fine with John Cotton's #1, Squadron Leader and Gaslight as my go to Englishes. Gaslight is a departure from my previous blends, much stronger (for me) and more of the smokey, slightly creamy sweet with a smidgen of creosote flavor. It is nice to have something very different to enjoy as well. I'm looking forward to trying the blends and hopefully finding maybe several more English blends to fill out my rotation of English blends.

I will 2nd (or 8th) the recommendation of PS English Oriental Supreme. I am still a bit new to English blends but this stuff is mesmerizing to me. It meanders through flavors as I go through it.

Just got a tobacco order in today that included the much recommended Arango Balkan Supreme, and it did not disappoint. This will definitely be going into my regular rotation and is a blend that I will be stocking up on to cellar.
