I would really appreciate some recommendations from some experienced English Blend lovers. I'm looking for more English Blends that fit my current 'wow' factor.
Blends that I have been 'WOW'd" by are: Iwan Ries Gourmet English, Frog Morton On the Town, John Cotton's Number One, Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader, and GL Pease Gaslight.
Blends that I have enjoyed, but seemed to lack that "WOW" factor for me: Dunhill Nightcap, SPC Plum Pudding, Boswell Northwoods, Arango Balkan Supreme, McClelland Jubilee and Frog Morton Cellar.
Frog Morton Cellar was the first English I tried that WOW'd me, until I tried Iwan Ries Gourmet English, and most recently Gaslight.
I really wasn't a fan of SPC Mississippi River, GL Pease Maltese Falcon, or Dunhill 965. Thought they were OK, but don't plan on buying more tins.
I really enjoy the Savory sweet, smokey, creamy and buttery, and fermented fruit flavors. The Vinegary feeling seems to detract from my enjoyment of English and Balkan blends. I've noticed that none of the blends that contain Perique have WOW'd me yet. Which seems surprising since I enjoy VaPers so much. Would be nice to find one with Perique that would fit this bill as well.
I have a tin of Esoterica Margate next in line to try. But was wondering about something in the Drucquer and Sons line, and Kramer's Father Dempsey.
Given my preferences of blends so far, does anyone have some recommendations/directions of other blends to try next?
Thanks in advance for your help. With so many choices of good/great English/Balkan Blends, getting some good recommendations will help my chances of success.
Thanks again.

Endel, welcome from Northern California. I like Petersons Old Dublin. It's a pretty rich smooth English.

Greetings; you mentioned something in the Drucquer and Sons line; I love Trafalgar. Great basic English blend, my go to.
I enjoy Inns of Court, which is very easy smoking but not really much of a Latakia hit in it, if that's what you're going for.

Welcome from North Carolina. My favorite, and for many others here on the Patch, is Arango Balkan Supreme. It’s the finest Balkan I’ve ever smoked and for me there’s plenty of WOW!

AJ is right on the money IMHO... Arango Balkan Supreme was good enough to break my obsession with Penzance... an obsession I'd had since the 1990s.

I keep meaning to try the Arango myself but since you said that didn't wow you, how about GL Pease Quiet Nights? It's got a bit of perique as well.
If it's the Oriental sweet/sour/incense flavors you're after, might try GLP Caravan too.

Welcome, Endel, from central north Florida. Margate is pretty good so is PS-English Oriental Supreme...I'm surprised you didn't care for Arango Balkan Supreme...one of the best, I think...but you are smoking not me. Vintage Syrian, if you can find it...also C&D Super Balkan and Star of the East. These I think you will like...but everyone is different and that is the thrill of pipe smoking.

welcome/greets all from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. long time lataholic, presently opened are '06 GLP Blackpoint & C&D daVinci. yet to open, same year 8oz cans of Abingdon, Exotique & the diabolical 10Russians. That being said, everybody's body chemistry can be different. Unable to recommend the WOW of any at this time. You asked for suggestions...that's all I can do for ya. To me, all the above are "must repeat" purchase

Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme is MY favorite English blend. Proper English is a little more toned down.

I think you will enjoy Father Dempsey. It is a great medium English blend. I find it to be a smooth smoking tobacco. The Latakia is solidly in place, but does not dominate it to the exclusion of everything else. To me, it has a hint of sweetness. It is on the more pleasant side for room note. I think It would not offend the non smokers for that reason. I can smoke it repeatedly and find it to be one of the best English blends. I Will always keep it on hand and have considered laying in a larger stash of it, just in case.

Peter Stokkebye English Oriental Supreme is MY favorite English blend. Proper English is a little more toned down. I was gonna suggest EOS too. And, add And So To Bed, if you can find it. I think the Margate will be a surprise. It almost doesn't taste like smoke. If you go slow, all you taste is a well balanced melange of tobacco.

For a Frog Morton Cellar parallel check out Peter Stokkybye's English Luxury. I think its the best mild English on the market today.

You didn't like Arango Balkan Supreme, so I can only think of GLP Blackpoint and Kramer's Father Dempsey. My own favorite used to be McClelland's Balkan Beauty, but that brand is no more as you know.

Irminsul. Oh no, I do like ABS. Very much. I have a jar of it, and will keep it on hand. I enjoy it every time I smoke it. I just don’t feel compelled, or a desire to smoke it all the time. Perhaps because it is winter now, and I’m looking for something more . . . buttery rather than ‘dryer’ like ABS. I think I’ll also give Father Dempsey a try. I’ve not heard much about GLP Blackpoint. I will have to look into that as well. Thank you.

I like Father Dempsey very much, as well as H&H White Knight. I have to try Arango Balkan Supreme and some of the other suggestions on this thread as I am partial to English blends as well. I see that ABS is out of stock on both SP and P&C! Drat!

The OP states he tried/liked Arango Balkan Supreme, but it didn't have the "Wow" factor. Yet, it's been recommended at least 3 times on this thread. That's some funny stuff.
I'll go with the already mentioned White Knight and Blackhouse. They are each different in their own way. So don't let a dislike of one turn you off to the other. Give them both a shot.
And I also recommend you go with that Father Demspey your considering. It's terrific. One of my favorite latakia blends.
Additionally, give Countryside a try from Boswells. It's pretty good too.

Try some Balkan Supreme.
- just kidding -
I'm thinking you'll enjoy that Margate. You might also want to pick up some Esoterica Pembroke which is the same blends with cognac topping.
Samuel Gawith blends are also worth exploring. Check out the reviews for Squadron Leader, Skiff Mixture, and Commonwealth.
