So, I had a pipe, a pouch of Carter Hall and had smoked a couple of bowls. The first bowl had gone very well, just three relights and then smoked it down to the bottom. Second bowl not so well. Then I found out that there was a tobacconist in town and that the first Tuesday of every month they held a pipe club. So I asked hubby if we could go. I'm an introvert and very reserved in person especially around people I don't know, so there was no way I would go without hubby. He said okay. I picked him up from work, we ate out and then headed to the shop. We got there about 30 minutes early and looked around the shop a bit. I had learned that Savinelli filters were really good, so I picked up a package of those and a jar of BriarWorks Peach Cobbler. Hubby chatted with the guy who was there. He had seen some pipes made by a local man and was asking questions about them. The guy told us that the pipe club was about to start and invited us to stay. Hubby remarked that it was why we had come. There were four guys in there already, chatting, and I was getting cold feet. Hubby asked if I was ready to go in and I hesitated. He told me to come on in and guided me through the door. He wasn't going to let me back out. As he said to me, They can help you figure this all out. So we went in, met the guys and took a seat. I made hubby sit in the middle of the couch, lol. The guy on the end was described as the pipe packing expert. He walked me through the packing and lighting process. The way he explained it helped hubby to understand what was supposed to happen, comparing it to building and lighting a fire -- something my "woodsman" hubby is an expert at. We had great conversation. There was one guy there that hubby knew, they work at the National Guard Armory together. The guy to helped with the pipe lighting also works at the Armory in the building next to hubby's. The guys explained that there is usually another guy there, they kind of refer to him as "The Professor" who knows all there is to know about pipes and smoking. They said if he'd been there he would have given a lecture with slides and there would have been a quiz afterward, lol. All in all it was a very good experience and I'm looking forward to next month's meeting!
