Have you ever lived in Manhattan?
If not, the "Villiage" is on the East side of the island, and the place where the "folk" movement got it's start in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Bob Dylan was a well-known denizen back then. I don't know what it's like now, but when I lived there it was still a bohemian stronghold.
After a couple of beers one afternoon, I decided to head over to a used record shop on "positively 4th street".
At an intersection, I noticed a group of people that resembled an amoeba. In the center of the amoeba was Andy Warhol. Emboldened by the beers, I shouted out... "Hey, Andy!"
He looked in my direction, and the amoeba made it's way toward me.
He says to me... "We're going to a party. You want to come?"
You can guess what my reply was.

Beer, initially. I choose not to discuss details of the event, but I did have a good time.

I've only ever met Terri Hatcher, Jack Nicholson, and Drew Barrymore. Alcohol was always involved.😂 Would love to have met Warhol.👏

Thanks for sharing Martin, brings back memories hanging out in The Village at CBGB on Friday night’s and the drum battles. I bet you remember the place if you were in Manhattan during the 70’s. Met Debbie Harry, CBGB was a hang out at times before she became popular. I still remember when she signed a contract with Chrysalis Records......she was hammered......she earned it👍👍👍

Hell of a good time...

"At an intersection, I noticed a group of people that resembled an amoeba. In the center of the amoeba was Andy Warhol.*
What an appropriate way to describe Andy Warhol's closest devotees. I think he would approve.
Going by what I know of that past, the East Village is nothing like it once was. I first visited the East Village a few years ago. The urban professional has taken over with a few shops, bars etc. here and there serving as a homage to what once was,

It was a great place back in the day to chill out from the bustle of midtown. I suspected it had been taken over by the "millennials" or the young, overpaid kids who's self-righteous, "entitled" attitude is destroying everything here in San Francisco and elsewhere, I'm sure.

I think it was already starting to be overtaken by Yuppies (which I was) at that point.

When in the Navy during the 60s, I spent almost every available weekend In Manhattan, and the Village. Too busy people watching and drinking, and never knew If I saw anyone who may have been important. The 60s were also a great time to visit NYC.

I actually saw one of the few celebrities I've ever run across during that trip to NYC. I was at the Waterfront and saw Matt Dillon (the young actor, not the sheriff) going down an escalator alone while I was going up. The friend I was with yelled out, "Hey, Matt!", and he turned and waved ... and then was set upon by three young ladies wanting autographs.

I know it sounds stupid but living in NYC I bump into famous people on a regular basis. They're just regular people. Unless you're a huge fan, who gives a damn? It's just a cool story. "Hey this one time I was drinking in a bar with Jared Harris" Dramatwist is deliberately restricting his stories to the notable / unusual. Meeting Andy Warhol by accident in the village? A completely normal story for hundreds of thousands of people. Being invited to a party by Andy Warhol? Kind of weird, and only a few thousand people can make the claim. Hence Dramatwist sharing it with us

The protocol is "not to notice" and walk on by. All true New Yorkers follow this rule.
