This has happened a few times, where my blood pressure will drop so far that I pass out. It happened again around 2AM Sun. morning when I had to hurry to the bathroom. Just as I sat down, I got really light headed, like I was going to faint. I woke up on the floor between the toilet and the bath tub, really disoriented. I don't know how long I was out, I never know. Then, I'm totally wiped out for quite a while. Last nite I was so exhausted I could barely make it back to the living room and my recliner. Then, when I had to make another hurried trip to the bathroom, I fell a few times. After talking with my cardiologist I have determined that when this happens, it's because my heart stops or goes into arrhythmia where it no longer pumps, but just lays there quivering, which is what he says happens. Then my pace maker will first over clock it to see if the rhythm gets back to normal, and if not, then increases the over clock and then as a last resort will defibrillate. I didn't get shocked last night, but for the time I was out, something must have happened or that would have been the end. I was surprised to wake up on the bathroom floor, and it took a few moments for everything to register. Matter of fact, it didn't completely dawn on me for about 5 to 10 min.
I've had quite a few close calls over the past 20 or so years. Each time it leaves me questioning a lot of things, with no answers. The only thing I know for sure is, I'm very grateful for the VA having decided to put a pace maker in my chest. I'm eternally grateful for the VA, and what they have done for me over the past 20+ years. If it weren't for the VA, I'd have been gone in 1992.
Just to let you know.
Al

Hate to hear that. I have similar episodes due to anxiety, but nothing that severe. Prayers going out to you.

Good grief, Allan, that's a tad scary, I'm sure. I'm glad you've got the pacemaker in to keep you going. As Dramatwist wrote, I hope there are people around to help you when it happens. Take it easy, brother.

I can only hope that life will get better for you Allan. Since this occurred yesterday, I take it that you're calling your Cardiologist's office this morning for a quick appointment time?

My professional opinion is A-Fib, it's very treatable. ask your doctor if you might benefit from Acebutolol or Diltiazem will give you any relief from this problem. He may recommend surgery which is not really all that serious. Take care my friend

I had what I am pretty sure was a heart attack last year in japan.
I felt tremendous pressure in my head and ear and I broke out in a cold sweat. I have a cardiac arrhythmia and I felt my neck and my heart was beating like a locust trapped in a tin can. The next thing I knew I felt terribly lightheaded and I was on the floor of the mens room.
When I woke up, quite some time had passed, I'm not sure how much. My head was bleeding prefusely and there was blood all over my face and shirt. And the tiles. Scores of japanese people passed me but no one even bothered to tap me on the shoulder to see if I was alive. That kind of put me off to Tokyo in general. I guess that's big cities in general. Less humanity.
I got up and went to my plane, still feeling weird as hell. Just grimy and clammy everywhere. I got stopped by security on the way to the gate on the count of all the blood. Shaving incident, I said. The white lie was better than a week in the hospital, I thought.
If I died on the plane, well, it's my time to go be with the Lord. Docs are taking care of that issue now, as best as they can. They know about the arrhythmia but theyre not sure that's what caused my episode. They think it may have been vasovagal syncope. So while we're working on the ticker, I'm dealing with some really wicked GI issues. It seems that almost all of us on these pipe forums are pretty ancient and falling apart. Misery loves company! Wishing you the best, man. It sounds like you are actually handling this quite well.
