So I've got a story about something that happened to my mother and sister about ten years ago. As told to me by my sister. Before telling, you have to understand my mother was (passed away three years ago) a thrift store-a-holic. She was always in thrift stores and bought all kinds of stuff there. She was visiting my sister in Colorado and on her return was accompanied by my sister. They were going through the TSA checkpoint at Denver airport and my sister went first and was waiting for my mother, who walked a bit slowly. Suddenly she heard alarms and there were five policemen in bullet proof jackets and guns drawn, guns all aimed at, presumably, my mother. My sister couldn't get in to find out was going on as she was blocked by TSA agents from approaching. Eventually they took my mother into a secure room and my sister was allowed in. On the table was my mother's carry on bag open. Sitting out on the table was - a cutlery set composed of eight forks and spoons, and eight steak knives. Her thrift store find. She told the police that she carried it on instead of checking it because she believed the baggage handlers would steal the set. In the end my mother was angry because she was sent back to the ticket counter to check the bag. I think my sister aged ten years in that encounter.

But they will let you take 3 boxes of matches on board, not 4, but 3, talk about social masturbation.

Hah hah hah. Your poor mom, Perry. I would LOVE to be able to carry my pocket on board, but that won't happen any time soon.

The last time I went through O'Hare, my pocket knife got past security.

Perry that’s a fine story, parents older just don’t conform to the norm. One time we brought my elderly father after my Mom died to the movies. He always did his own thing, wife watched him as he approached the ticket office, big sign, Retired people get special discount, My Father says one ticket I’m retarded , wife jumps in and says Sanford you’re retired not retarted, he says What’s the difference.!

That’s a darn shame how your Mom was treated. My Mom’s last trip to NY from Vegas before she passed away the TSA confiscated her knitting needles and crochet hooks. She was use to being able to knit on a plane. The agents were so nasty and disposed ALL, they were her Mom’s. They refused to let my Mom go back and store in her luggage. That’s just wrong!

The airports and airlines are terrible. Unless you have a first class ticket, you're pretty much screwed. And the disability services are a joke. I could write a 1000 page autobiography about all of the wrongdoings the airlines have done me through the years. I just don't have enough negative energy to accomplish that. I would rather get a canoe and take it to thailand sometimes.

My pipe tool- not a Czech, but one with a blunt ended blade about 2" long- was deemed too dangerous on a flight. Now I pack them in my Dopp kit. Butane lighters have passed, but not after ascertaining they were soft flame.
There are some dicks at TSA, but also plenty of good folks.

I only carry a Bic when I travel because the TSA website calls them out as acceptable. The only thing they ever pulled my carry on bag aside for was my shave brush! It stowed inside a nickel silver cylinder that they said looked like a shotgun shell. Once they saw it was a shave brush they were fine.

All soft flame lighters I've carried aboard all passed. I pack tins in checked luggage (if I have same) as they look suspicious on the Xray machine.

A buddy of mine and his wife shared carry on bags, he used the bag she had previously used and boarded the plane with it. He went to fetch something from a side pocket during the plane ride and saw her Sig Sauer P238 in the bag... “What did you do?” I asked him.
“I ordered a double gin and tonic, and then another”
He Fedexed it home prior to flying back.
Right after 9/11, pre TSA my wife accompanied our daughter to college in S. Carolina. The authorities had lifetime tables set up, it was all not thought out. My wife and daughter received a random check in front of all the other passengers, and they held up their panties to the light... I guess searching for primer cord woven in the bands. My daughter was embarrassed, my wife was pretty pissed. Middle eastern guys were waved through the line.

That's a brilliant story. I can understand why she had to recheck the cutlery set. I'm surprised they let her. It was nice of them to do so.
My wife has a friend whose mother got stopped at security. In the UK we're not allowed to carry liquids over 100ml on the plane (maybe it's the same in the USA). She was warned about that by her daughter.
During the security check she was taken aside and was asked if she had taken any liquids on the plane....
"No," she replied.
"Then what's this?"
"oh that's just my flask of tea"
😳
