I'm guessing you folks are sick of these stories... but I have to get out my experiences with Jerry. I'll assemble my thoughts and post this evening.

The loss of Jerry Garcia, in my life, I think, is one of the things I think I just can't reconcile with.
He was taken from us way too soon. So many people loved him. It seemed (and still seems) very unfair. But I am grateful for the years we had with him.
We all miss you, Captain Trips. More than words can tell. ;(

We normally talked about WWII and Universal monster movies. Then we'd play some acoustic guitar and smoke a joint. I miss him bad.

I have a LOT of live shows . . . favorite song by him is "Loser" off his solo album. Guess being a poker player kind of fits . ..

OK, Perry, here you go...
I'm up at Jerry's place in Stinson Beach. Google it.
We sit outside. Jerry rolls a joint. He puts it on the picnic bench. He then proceeds to take out a vial of cocaine. I look at him, and we start laughing.
So, we snort it up.
I say... Jerry, you wanna do some music or something?
He says... no, man. I'm tired.
That was the last time I saw him.

How long after this event did Jerry pass?

The nonchalant humanness of this story is brilliant. Just two friends enjoying time together. Simply that. It speaks volumes. Thank you for sharing. As a huge fan of the band thank you for sharing. As a matter of fact just before reading this my wife and I were trying to pick whether to see dead and co or Phil Lesh. I unfortunately was just a year or so too young to see Jerry but have seen countless offshoots. Like many, the music has been the soundtrack of most of my life.

I worked at MSP when I was a kid and I spotted and had passing encounters with celebs every day but one of my buddies I worked with at the snack bar had a funny encounter with Jerry one morning after a St Paul show that I was at the night before. Pipe shows replaced Dead/JGB shows in when he died.

Jerry was nothing if not a kind, human guy. I've never known a more down-to-earth man than him, despite his foibles and weaknesses (which we all have, whether we admit it or not.) When I heard his voice singing some old song out in the yard in those days, I knew it was something special, and not to be taken for granted.

...lol, he was a prolific sketcher, which I was too, and we would spend hours drawing... we'd sit out in his front yard and smoke a joint or a pipe and draw airplanes, monsters...

When I was young lad and in the Air Force, I was stationed in Tucson Arizona. Every third or fourth weekend I would drive home from Tucson to LA. I'd drive at night through the desert with the top of my old MGB down and Grateful Dead blaring on the 8 TRACK.

There’s a great documentary on Netflix "The Other One: The Long Strange Trip of Bob Weir" which was made just a few years ago. It’s excellent, but only available on Netflix since it’s a "Netflix Original". www.netflix.com/title/80011852?s=i&trkid=13752289

Great memory! Personally, I'd never get sick of hearing any stories about Garcia.
Copying along with live Dead/JGB/LOM is pretty much how I learned to play guitar. Same thing with Genesis and learning the keys.
The only sticker I have on my truck is the inlay from Tiger...Discreet, and only recognizable to those who know.
