I will see how Kendal Cream goes; but that is my plan. Once there is bulk G&H blends available. Ennderdale, Rum Flake, Bosun Cut Plug, Kendal Flake, Coniston, Grasmere etc etc. Hope this goes well and fits my palate, these sound like very interesting blends. Mars Cigar has a bunch of GH in bulk: www.marscigars.com/gawithhoggarth.aspxEdit: I may regret posting this, if I want to go on a Lakeland buying spree... Thanks Jason. Never heard of Mars Cigars before. They don't have Ennerdale in stock, but they do have Bob's Chocolate Flake, Bosun Cut Plug, Grasmere, Kendal Flake, and Rum Flake. I was thinking of getting 2 ounces (smallest amount they sell) of Kendal Flake and maybe one more. Would Bosun Cut Plug round out the sample pretty well?

They have Coniston Cut Plug in stock too, and though I haven't tried it, it gets high marks. Really, I haven't had any GH that I haven't liked, except for Black X Irish Twist - we won't go there.

If you like the smell of cloves/clove cigarettes, then by all means. (It's my favorite GH blend.) Otherwise, I recommend you add Rum Flake to your threesome. I haven't tried Bob's Chocolate Flake, but it's very popular, so I don't think you can go wrong with it either.

I was thinking that Kendal Flake would be pretty strong. Which other one would be more mild to go along with it? I was looking at maybe getting Rum Flake since it is available in the tin. Heck, maybe Kendal Flake, Bosun Cut Plug, Bob's Chocolate Flake (like to see something with Latakia) and a tine of Rum. This is turning out to be an expensive curiosity. Had to go all out, not knowing how Lakelands will sit with me though. LOL But I guess I can cellar it, and try it in the future, if I don't like it now.

Also, was thinking instead of the Great Dane Spool, might try starting off smoking Lakelands in my smaller LaPeltier simple glazed clay pipe (similar pipe, minus the pheasant).

All my tobacco finally arrived. Started off with G&H Bob's Chocolate Flake in a MM Great Dane Spool straight cob, along with a mug of Earl Grey tea. So So good. If this is a good indication of what I can expect from Lakelands, I am hooked. This is great! This reminds me of the old Russell Stovers Candy Factory here in Lincoln, NE AND my godmother's house (who also worked at Russell Stovers along with both my parents.

I have been hesitant to try any lakeland blends as of yet. After I heard a smoker describe it 'like smoking your grandmother's perfume', Lakelands never made it to my 'must try' list. Until now. Just thought that trying a floral Lakeland about the same time that Spring springs, might be the best time to try Lakelands.
So which Lakelands would be the best as an introduction to Lakelands that would be favorable?
Also, is it necessary to take any 'ghosting' precautions?
GLP Stonehenge has a bit of Lakeland essence. Not overpowering. It's not a "true" Lakeland, but it's delicious, nonetheless. After that, I'd say some Bosun Cut Plug, or Ennerdale. Any of the GH "scented" tobaccos will get you far into Lakeland country. The Stonehenge won't ghost, but the Bosun and Ennerdale most likely will. I have a cob for Lakelands, so I can't speak to how badly they'd ghost a daily driver. I don't like Stonehenge very much. I do, however, like some of the classic Lakelands. The Stonehenge "sauce" is not as pleasant as some of its bolder cousins, in my opinion. Sometimes "less" doesn't mean "milder."
I would just dive into the proverbial "deep end" and get some serious British aromatics. All of the British-style aromatics have some amount of the "soap" and "perfume" essence of a Gawith / G&H "Lakeland."
Personally I think you can't go wrong with the classic "over the counter" British blends. These all have extremely distinctive "scents" that lean on floral and perfume notes rather than "food" tastes or smells. They're not real "lakelands" because they're not made by the old boys in Kendal, but they share more with the proper Lakelands than with any American-style tobacco.
- St Bruno
- Erinmore
- Condor (not available in U.S.)
Out of the "real" lakelands the only one I keep in my normal bag is Ennerdale flake, but I'm sure others have other opinions.
