I have been hesitant to try any lakeland blends as of yet. After I heard a smoker describe it 'like smoking your grandmother's perfume', Lakelands never made it to my 'must try' list. Until now. Just thought that trying a floral Lakeland about the same time that Spring springs, might be the best time to try Lakelands.
So which Lakelands would be the best as an introduction to Lakelands that would be favorable?
Also, is it necessary to take any 'ghosting' precautions?

GLP Stonehenge has a bit of Lakeland essence. Not overpowering. It's not a "true" Lakeland, but it's delicious, nonetheless. After that, I'd say some Bosun Cut Plug, or Ennerdale. Any of the GH "scented" tobaccos will get you far into Lakeland country. The Stonehenge won't ghost, but the Bosun and Ennerdale most likely will. I have a cob for Lakelands, so I can't speak to how badly they'd ghost a daily driver.

Cramptholomew had me try a Lakeland on our last "pipe night" together and the tin note and smoke was crazy. This coming from one who has never experienced a Lakeland and leave it to my good friend to make sure I would make the plunge from the deep end. I have recently tried St. Bruno Ready Rub and found that while not a true Lakeland, it has the essence of it. Its very light but gives an impression of whats to come if one were to make it to something stronger. The nice thing is that its light enough that one bowl of it wont ghost a pipe like a full on Lakeland will. I suspect that if one were to put a handful or more bowls of St. Bruno in a single pipe and nothing else, it would start to ghost up though. I will say this, I can see why Lakeland has its lovers and its haters. Its a very dividing thing in tobacco. I think more so than aromatic vs non-aromatic. It really is a thing that is in its own world.

Yes, I was reading that post as well. But just as Gaslight or Nightcap are a couple of my favorite English blends; I'm not sure I would suggest them as the first English to try, to see if you like English/Latakia blends. So to, I was wondering what might be a good "Lakeland lite" blend if you will.

And as luck would have it, I have a nice new unsmoked MM Great Dane spool to dedicate to this.

If you must, Samuel Gawith Kendall Cream should be instructional. As mentioned above, Ennerdale would provide the same experience. Hope you make it back alive.

If you're going to go for lakeland, don't just get your toe wet. Go for Ennerdale. I love all things lakeland, and while Ennerdale is the floral bomb of the bunch, it will definitely let you know what the experience is about.

How strong of a nic hit do Lakelands have? Looking at current availability, how much 'lakeland' essence, and how much of a nic hit, do the following blends have? :
GH Kendal Dark, KendalMixture, Dark Flake scented, Rum Flake and/or Grasmere. Also, will St. Bruno give me a good idea of what Lakeland blends are all about? Looking for a milder nic hit, and milder "floral essence' for my first Lakeland blend to try.

I've never gotten a nic hit from smoking a pipe though I've heard talk that most GH blends are strong. I just like how they taste.

From the start you’ll either be a fan of Lakeland tobacco’s or a hater. Some have a strong floral note!!
Try Conniston Cut Plug, Bob's Chocolate Flake is a nice light Lakeland, there is Brown Flake, Ennerdale, Bob's Square Cut, and if you want to dip both feet into the Lakeland blends.........Grasmere, which will either kill you or make you a fan for life!

Rich Dark Honeydew is my favorite, but you have to REALLY like sweets for that one.

I jumped in with both feet and tried Ennerdale first. I didn't care for it. I then went with Bob's Chocolate Flake. Much better but still not something I'm not going to continue to smoke at this time in my pipe life. Maybe in a few years. I did learn I am not a Lakeland fan!

Kendal Cream seems popular and I'd agree. I also really enjoyed Grousemoor.

I'd suggest G&H Bob's Chocolate Flake...has good flavor, particularly with 5 years age on it, and it is something that I find I can smoke on a daily basis. If you can find Irish Condor Long Cut Flake and I specify that it has to be the old Irish Condor, not the new Polish version, that you will find it is a delicious tasting tobacco. I think you will have to find some that is from 2016 or older, the new Polish version is terrible to say the least...they ruined a wonderful heritage with the Polish version.

...at any age, Lakeland tobaccos are an acquired taste... it's akin to certain music, I think... if you don't know about opera, wade in with a toe, first...

The responses above pretty much cover all the ground. My personal feeling is any Sam Gawith tobacco that's not an English is a Lakeland.

Looking for a milder nic hit, and milder "floral essence' for my first Lakeland blend to try. Samuel Gawith Kendal Cream is a good place to start. It has a light Lakeland essence, a mild to medium nic hit, and great flavor. If you are ok with a medium nicotine level, then I recommend an unscented Gawith Hoggarth blend first. Try Brown Flake Unscented. It has a medium nic hit, light essence, and great natural tobacco flavor. If you find that you like the Lakeland essence, I recommend that you then try Rum, Grasmere, Ennerdale, and the other scented Gawith Hoggarth flakes. Bosun Cut Plug is a great blend, but only if you like the essence of cloves.

Thanks all. Decided to go with Samuel Gawith Kendal Cream, ordered a tin from Iwan Ries. Good choice. I started with ennerdale and it wasn't too much for me. I enjoyed it from the get go....but then again, while I detected the tonquin I don't really taste my smoke so it just tasted like flowery smoke. I'm now in the mood for some right now.

I have two Missouri Meerschaum General cobs that are dedicated to Lakelands, as they will ghost a pipe. I think they taste the best when smoked in a cob as well.

I find Lakeland blends quite pleasant, not all the time but as a treat for a sweet tooth moment. I would personally recommend G&H rum flake.and bosun cut plug. If you’re on the fence the worst you can do is buy an oz. and if you don’t like it send it my way!👻
