Is it possible the pipe was cast from some strange material and maybe warped a little with temperature change?
Pretty neat

Hard to tell what the material is in the OP, but with a little clever drilling and carving, some grand illusions can be done with briar.

WOW, Duane, that is a really nice pipe...usually don't go for strange looking artisan pipes, but that one is something special. Took some serious talent to make that one.

That is certainly unusual and a work of art.

It wasn't split in two and carved out and then glued out riveted back, was it?

It has a P-trap... great for indoor plumbing, not so much or a pipe I would imagine.

Joe, that’s a very different pipe for sure👍 So, smoke it a few times and post your thoughts. Does a pipe cleaner pass through the stem to the bowl.....lol. It’s a cool looking pipe!!

We have a bunch of African carvings that are made of wood that looks exactly like that, Even with the inlaid porcupine spines.

I cleaned it up yesterday and couldn’t get a pipe cleaner anywhere but the stem and the bowl itself. It also has a pretty deep and narrow bowl, and a very large stem/mouthpiece not to be held in the side of ones mouth, only straight on. No clenching. Kinda strange. I’m guessing, by design, it wants something light and non aromatic? Any thoughts? Seems to me a high possibility of the gurgles on this one.

Joe, rub out some OGS well and give it a try. Hey, it might look great in a single pipe stand👍

Probably a good call. It’s on my list of future acquisitions. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I've got one of these. Not even sure where it's at right now. I didn't want to smoke it because I didn't know what kind of wood it was made of.

If you find it I’d be interested to compare them. I think it’s African Blackwood or Ebony. I also think it’s safe to smoke, but welcome any other opinions. I remember it burning hot, but I’m sure that was my fault.
