Try something really sweet if you get nicotine sick. Something like a snicker bar or a regular coke. That helps restore blood sugar. Low blood sugar is a side effect of too much Vitamin N. This is critical advice. Low blood sugar is much of what causes the "spins" and swooning when you've had too much nicotine. A hard candy or a diabetic's blood sugar supplements will radically improve your condition in minutes.

That was not the article I meant... it was one of the articles he wrote on that gunfight, if I can dig up the other one later when I am home maybe I can post it.

I guess that's me, a real light-weight. I thoroughly enjoyed two big back-to-back bowls of my Old Dark Fired in my JM Boswell Freehand, which is a good sized pipe. I was down at the river here at the marina this evening, and it was a great, peaceful time on the water. But man, I got a nicotine hit like I've never had before! This is gonna wreck my cowboy image. Try smoking two bowls of Brown Irish Twist in that pipe and get back to me.

I've been meaning to get around to this...
Inspired by bigwoolie,I brome out my small stash of ODF on Saturday. Now I've had it for a while now,in fact I was inspired to buy it not too long after joining the forum. My experiences with it haven't been great...I found it difficult to keep lit, likely to leave me feeling stoned, and not tasting at all like Guinness. The last bowl I had(late November or early December) turned my stomach, and literally sent me off on a loop, and sent me to bed to recover.
So,on Saturday, with some trepidation I set off to the shops, walking through the park,my cob filled with ODF.
Maybe I got the flake rubbed down properly for the first time...maybe the tobacco had simply dried out a bit,but this time the bowl smoked through on a single light. The flavour, while still robust, wasnt overwhelming. Now,I'd say anyone who says ODF is like Guinness has never had a decent pint of the nectar, but,the flavour did remind me of a couple of English stouts,Sam Smith's in particular. The nic hit was still strong, much stronger than anything else I've smoked thus far,but not the knockout blow it has been.
I'm glad I've given it another try,but itll never be a casual smoke for me!

...glad you gave it another chance... certainly not a daily smoke for me, but I do enjoy it on occasion... drying time makes the difference... I usually load up a pipe and leave it out overnight...

I never heard that before. Good to know. I enjoy strong blends in a big pipe and can usually smoke them back to back with no problem. However, every once in a while I'll get the spins. Feels just like when I have low blood sugar, so what you say makes perfect sense.

I visited Tombstone with my family as a kid. I recall thinking how tight was the area where the gun fight took place and how close were the shooting distances involved. I just looked at a website for the OK Corral ( the fight didn't actually occur there). It looks much more commercialized and a production than when I saw Tombstone years ago.

I love ODF, but I don't know that I'd smoke it back-to-back unless I was drinking and it was all I had on me. One bowl of that stuff satisfies me for an hour or so.
I've been a cigarette smoker since I was 12-13, so I can feel it coming and just puff a little slower. Most I get is a frog in my throat from certain blends. Royal Yacht, Acadian Perique, Brown Bogie, and one of those awful Tsuge blends all frogged me up pretty bad. haha

Other tobaccos can hit me hard with Nic, so its not that I have some resistance. But I smoke the ODF flake and I don't know if that's a difference. I have noticed fresh flake is stronger than aged flake. Right now I'm smoking 4 year old ODF flake and its smooth as hell. No heavy Nic hit at all. Yesterday smoked 2 bowls back to back and didn't bother me. So I'm guessing aging it in particular can really reduce the Nic in it.

I have yet to keep a tin long enough to age. haha I have only had two and they were smoked that month. I need to buy a box. It's something I know I like and I'm pretty sure it would age nicely.

I've read that Cuban cigar smokers carry around sugar cubes in their pockets for this reason - to munch when the nicotine gets to be too much. But I've also found that once the "spins" start, sugar's not going to help and you just have to lie down and ride it out.

I put the pipe away and just hang out for about 10-15 minutes and then Im OK. I've carried sugar cubes for horses, might have to try carrying a couple for me.

True. In John Wayne's own words...
In California, Wyatt Earp also befriended a young actor named Marion Morrison who would later change his name to John Wayne and would become an American acting icon. Director John Ford hired John Wayne as a prop boy and extra, so he had the opportunity to meet Wyatt Earp. He made an impact on the young actor who later credited his walk, talk, and persona to his acquaintance with Wyatt Earp and on one occasion he reportedly said, “Earp was the man who had actually done the things in his life that I was trying to do in a movie. I imitated his walk; I imitated his talk”.
So was John Wayne kin to Jim Morrison?
