I mentioned in an earlier thread about the job I had coming up in Montana this summer. Well, the new website finally came on line last night. My partner, the lady who is starting the school, built the site. I just wrote the pages dealing with my part, which is the wrangler school.
If anyone would care to, I wonder if you would mind taking a quick gander at it. People who have doing something for so many years, like we have, can sometimes take for granted the details that others might be perplexed at. My son pointed one out last night, something that I just subconsciously assumed everyone would understand. So we fixed it.
The web address is dutchovenoutfitters.net, and the tab at the top, Wrangler / Campjack Classes, is my part. Feedback is hoped for, so don't fret about offending or hurting feelings. I need to know what someone looking at it with unassociated eyes sees.
I sure appreciate it.

Site looks great. Aestetically pleasing and tasteful.
Photography was obviously done with care as well.
It's easy to navigate and understand.
Everything seems solid and legitimately professional.
My God, Montana is beautiful...

The graphic user interface is clean and easy for a novice to locate what theyโre looking for at a ranch vacation in Montana. Very well done, simple and clean๐๐๐
However, you need to be packing a pair of old Colt .45โs while riding a horse......โ an authentic cowboy โ.

Trust me, in any of those pictures, there is bear medicine under that jacket. Forgot to add- You look like a legitimate Jeremiah Johnson Bada**. Haha. You look at home in the saddle. I reckon if I had a dollar for every mile I ever put in a saddle... I've fed horse at 5:00am, saddled up and pulled out, and then come in and unsaddled by lantern light at 9:00pm. Anywhere from 15 to 40 miles in a day horseback, depending on the trip. Mountains, rain, sleet, snow, high winds...you just do it. Because it's what you do. I appreciate the compliment, Shweetie says I'm an extinct dinosaur completely out of place in this world...but she loves me for it anyway.

Simple to navigate; excellent photography. There are three typos under the Gear List heading though.
The first sentence says, "Weather in Montana . . . can change fats". While this may be true...
Twice below is listed, "riding boots (with some heal)", and should be spelled heel.
Under the Contact header is written, "Our response time is within 24 hours. Or you may call or text us at anytime." Second sentence is not a complete sentence, and should have the word 'at' removed, like this: Our response time is within 24 hours, or you may call or text us anytime.
Excellent and simple site; not an overwhelming amount of info, also a really slick and pretty look.

I love the site. Unfortunately I don't like horses as they always hurt me on purpose. I love Dutch oven cooking, in the scouts I often had 4 going at one time. Stew, biscuits, and cherry cobbler all had to come together at the same time. I just can't do that bending, squatting and lifting anymore. I would like to audit the class just to sample the grub.

Dewayne,
The website looks great... easy to navigate, easy to read, easy to understand. A fine job by all involved.

KK. Not being harsh. Love the homepage. The food looks great. Total lifestyle images. I got to your landing page and it isn't matching the homepage. I see nothing but way too many words and then 3 guys on a horse. People don't want to read (that's 1990's web design). They want to see images families smiling having the time of their lives eating over a fire with a sunset. They want kids laughing. Old people re-falling in love. Show newborn folds running, puppies and dogs (not kidding) People don't want to see 3 dudes sitting on smelly horses. Now if was you in the middle of a group of smiles having a great time, yes! It's more important to make people "feel something" than it is for you to provide a ton of accurate information. You want them to FEEL like "that looks like a great time". Would love to know the % of people that sign up directly via the website with zero customer support needed, vs the % that need to call or discuss via email or phone before they sign up. (I am guessing that there are a few questions that come up first before they buy). Some examples

...speaking, of course, only for myself... I don't need to see a ton of photos of people of all ages and endless links of detail, not to mention targeted ads... I want a clean, easily readable website with contact information. Period.
I think most websites these days try to cram in too much... keep it simple... you don't need a bunch of .jpgs of people you don't know and don't care about to sell you on something.
I, for one, appreciate the simplicity of the site... white background, easy to read, easy to understand, easy to contact if I want further info... I like the site a lot.
Talk to three of us here on the 'Patch, and you get four different opinions.

I sent your observations to Sheila, the lady who built the site, and she made the changes immediately. She asked me to pass on her gratitude for your catch. Thank you.

But why are you telling dudes not to bring suitcases with wheels? hp les Suitcases with wheels don't roll well on a back country ranch. They are usually of a dimension that works well for rolling, but don't carry for beans. It's no big deal, and doesn't really matter to me, Sheila added that part on there.

I appreciate your input, and I certainly wouldn't say you are incorrect. However, this website is for a school, not vacations. A very specific type of school geared toward a very specific group of people. There are some very important thing those specific people need and want to know up right front before they pick up the phone. Being in the industry for almost 30 years, I know what info I have to have, and if the website I am looking at is all pretty photos and no substantive information, I move on. It has been my experience that empty, pretty websites are the often the offspring of empty, pretty people.

I understand the opinions discussed...
If I was interested in wrangling I'd be happy to read all about it. I know I'm keeping the site away from my wife otherwise I won't see her for 10 days and I'll be $2000 down, plus air fair and transport etc.
I like the site. Only thing is that on my mobile what appears at the top of the page makes it look like there isn't anything more below (if that makes sense).

Trust me, in any of those pictures, there is bear medicine under that jacket. ...never go anywhere without "bear medicine"... just a personal opinion... An opinion I share 100%. I killed a grizzly once, out in the back country of Alaska. It was a close encounter of the unnerving kind, and it can give you a unique perspective on life others don't have. And I trust grizzlies a whole lot more than I trust people.
