Haha Incredible. How many products can boast this level of popularity?

Haha Incredible. How many products can boast this level of popularity? I still dont get it. Esoterica blends are very good, and I may have jumped on some Penzance or Stonehaven, but even at that there are other blends that are just as good and readily available. I would take Black Frigate, Pirate Kake or Gaslight ahead of just about any Esoterica blend. Interestingly, there is a B&M near me that almost always has Esoterica blends in stock, but they are in a big city that has a 2.00/oz pipe tobacco tax. So that 44.00 8oz bag quickly ends up being 60.00. Thats a lot of bulk tobacco (but I have bought a couple anyway).

People want what is hard to get, the more so if it confers some sense of accomplishment or status whether real or not. So ingrained is the Esoterica mystique that some would sell their kids to organ harvesters to procure a tin of Penzance or Stonehaven.

I may sell the bags of ASTB as I found a readily availabile bulk that really hits the same spot. I do wanna try Penzance at least once. See for myself if the emperor is infact wearing clothes. It's at the point where I'm afraid to mention blends I love. I don't wanna accidentally trigger a stampede and make something I enjoy scarce.

Margate is up there, but at its heart it is an English blend and there are several awesome English blends to choose from in the marketplace. Penzance is a Balkan blend and while it is very good, a tin of Balkan Sobraine isnt a whole lot different. At MSRP I will happily pick up a couple tins of Esoterica. But at inflated flipper prices, never.

I love some of them and need to add some more to my cellar but not to the point of chasing them or paying more than standard retail. There are a lot of tobaccos out there I enjoy smoking and if I never got to smoke any more Esoterica after what I have stored is used up I won't shed a tear.

Its like Pappy Van Winkle. I have never bought into the hype and will never spend that kind of money on it, mainly because I don't think it tastes that special.
On a similar note, I ran across a bottle of Weller Antique 107 a few months back and grabbed one knowing people are ranting about it (supposed to be the same recipe). Ran through the bottle really quick as it is quite a good bourbon for a steal at $28. Decided to get to my local package store yesterday to pick up another bottle when their delivery arrived. Wound up waiting an hour in line to get it (sunk cost fallacy in play there) and now it is up to $32.
Apparently it is now one of the new hyped bourbons and in limited supply. So I will enjoy this last bottle of mine and erase it from my list as I will not wait in line for it nor pay inflated prices.

I read a book on Bourbon prices and for a long time pricing was pretty stable. Then the same speculators that drove up prices on Single Malt Scotch started speculating in Bourbon and now prices are rising rapidly. It's kind of a sin. As for the Pappy stuff, I only just heard about a year or two ago. F ind it completely hard to believe.

I have a friend trying to get one of those reserve bottles now. It's good to have some wealthy friends. I will certainly enjoy tasting it, I just don't see me needing a bottle. I think that things in that price range are really just for people who make so much money, they get bored spending so little. In my buddies' case, (I don't want to be mean,) but he doesn't really even have the palate. He's always gonna be the Crown and Coke guy he's always been, but he enjoys the pomp of the thing. He loves that he can sip on a bottle of booze that cost what he used to make a week when we were in college- And I can dig that.

I think you just defined someone who participates in speculation. lol He may at some point. His money goes to real estate currently. He also buys valuable comic books and has them graded and framed. He loves to tell you what they're worth, but hasn't read a single one... Haha

For a while it seemed like they were becoming more available, and I saw tins of Pembroke and Margate sitting around online shops for a week. Maybe people were just distracted for a while by the McClelland closure and HH Vintage Syrian hoarding. Still no Dunhill panic, though....

You look at the prices people are paying on eBay. $175 for an 8oz bag of Penzance. I'm sure speculators are seeing that and buying all they can with the hopes of flipping it for a nice profit. As long as people want to pay those prices it will be hard to get any. With some many good tobacco's out there I don't need Esoterica.

Arango Balkan Supreme and Sutliff Crumble Kake English #1 were more than enough to unshackle the Esoterica Penzance chains from around my wrists.

Happened to hit SPC when a shipment of Margate came in. Picked up a tin for $14 bucks. Gonna try it in about a year.
In the meantime, Arango Balkan Supreme, Gaslight, Plum Pudding SR, Quiet Nights, Black Frigate and Pirate Kake are very, very nice.

I received a note on the pipe club facebook page from a contact that Esoterica Pembroke was in stock at Mars cigar, I checked and yes it was...texted two guys in the pipe club...checked back, poof it was gone.
Them unicorns do not hang out very long....if I was seriously looking for it, I would contact Arango cigar, ask for a list of retailers in my state and cultivate a relationship.

My local B&M should be getting pembroke, margate, penzance and stonehaven very soon. Allocation of penzance and stonehaven is small so I suspect that will be gone quickly. Also getting in GH Best Brown #2 bulk. Looking forward to this shipment.
