Hey Patchers,
Last couple of weeks life seems to have shifted into overdrive with the wife now working, me with 90mins commuting each way work getting busy and Federal Jury duty. Sadly, has not left me much time to come visit. But, I am alive and well, hung out at my local on Friday, enjoyed a couple of bowls an a wonderfully aged Anjeo from my locker.
Better things on the horizon, wife and I are traveling to Chicago beginning of May to celebrate our 20th (I know, amateur level compared to some of you here!) but I could use a shop recommendation.
Hope that you are all well and staying out of trouble. Or at least not getting caught, yes reference back to my previously mentioned jury duty. I did not get selected to serve on a trial, but at least I wasn’t asked to sit at the defendant’s bench.

Hey Patchers, Last couple of weeks life seems to have shifted into overdrive with the wife now working, me with 90mins commuting each way work getting busy and Federal Jury duty. Welcome to the Windy City! As for shop recommendations, I would head to: Iwan Ries at 19 S. Wabash, Chicago - you have read about them, now visit them. They are on the second floor of a grandfathered building that allows smoking, and Iwan Ries is a pipe mecca on par with the best! Plan for an excellent selection, lots of history, good company, and some great tobacco recommendations. Up Down Tobacco at 1550 N Wells St, Chicago - Up Down is a smaller pipe and cigar shop, but their pipe selection is excellent and they always have Esoterica and Germains blends in stock. Up Down has a lot of history in Chicago and their late founder Diana Silvius has a cigar named after her stocked at the shop. Arlington Pipe and Cigar lounge at 546 W Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, IL - A great shop for the piper with a bunch of house blends (I like Hunter Blend) and several hard to find brand names. There is a relaxing lounge here with BYOB and soft drinks. The location is in a nondescript strip mall but it is very nice inside. About 35 minutes outside the Chicago city limits. There are several more, but those three would be the tops.

I'm pretty sure they'll never call me for that. Too many factors would make me prejudiced to too many cases in the favour of the defendant.
Hopefully you're getting some kind of reasonable accommodation.
Glad to hear you are doing alright. Congrats on making it 20. I can't make it 20 for anything. Except for vices and music.

( I think it was Iwan Reis)
Where someone said that if you live out of state it is cheaper to order your tobacco’s online even if you are in the store.

( I think it was Iwan Reis) Where someone said that if you live out of state it is cheaper to order your tobacco’s online even if you are in the store. No doubt, especially in the Chicago area where there is a $2.00/oz ridiculous pipe tobacco tax! But on the flip side of that coin, the B&Ms in the area keep their best inventory in-store and do not sell online, which gets more people in the door. I buy both from Chicago B&Ms and online. B&Ms for the fancy stuff, online for bulk purchases.

...a Bay Area commute nearly killed me when I was in IT at Chevron... So many people partially or completely telecommute to work today it's amazing. I think that's what we really need to invest in, if we're serious about reducing greenhouse gasses. Not trying to make this political, but bangkok is becoming unlivable right now because of the greenhouse gasses. It's a for real thing. Ive seen scores of people puking up blood and wierd white phlem out of their lungs right onto the street. No. I'll stick with the suburbs outside of udon thani.

Well gang,
Figured it was time to check in again, been a few days. Been studying, reading, working on a script for a project at work. Yes, me the guy who doesn’t know much of anything is building, rather successfully, some scripts to test things that his company’s product monitors.
I managed to get out for a couple hours to my local, and while I didn’t smoke any of my pipes, I smoked a 10+ year old Padron cigar and a beautiful Eiroa Cigar. The smokes were good, the company even better. It was the perfect way to end a long week.
This week looks to be about as hectic starting with a meeting tomorrow where I get to explain to my team everything that the two scripts I wrote do. And then we go and implement them.
Ah well, it’s life. Even more importantly, I know with this team that they are very interested in what I am doing as well as value my input on their parts of the project we are working on every bit as much as I value their’s.
Anyway, it has really been a long time since I can say that I look forward to going to work.
ExChef
PS: still ironing out the plans for Chicago with the wife. I am really looking forward to this trip.
