Born and raised in SE Texas but retired outside of New Orleans. You may have to make a road trip to Houston to find a good pipe shops. No offense, but Dallas, Austin and San Antonio have pretty much been taken over by people moving from the west coast and are barely considered Texas anymore.

I think you can safely say a similar thing about most places I've been to. I'm in CO, but when I go back to my little hometown in central Texas, it hasn't changed much. Most of those changes have been for the better. I am reminded of what living in a community is, versus living in place where a bunch of random people reside. In communities, people go to the basketball games to cheer for your neighbors kids. And stop by to visit your dad in the nursing home when they haven't seen him in years. It's nice. But that is small town Texas. New suburbs seem pretty similar everywhere. But that's a function of an expanding world. I was just in Costa Rica after a 20 year gap from the last time. American chain restaurants are now everywhere, at normal US prices. Why anyone visits CR and eats at Taco Bell amazes me. Their sodas are still great though.

I've tried to leave several times, There must be something I'm supposed to accomplish here because life hasn't let me stay away. It's not a bad place but I'm not a big city kind of guy, even though I grew up here. I prefer the quiet, with scarcity of humans. Longview is probably a bit quieter than DFW though. Enjoy the new digs, and hope you get settled in nicely. "I'm from the city. It doesn't matter which one, they're all the same." I'll never forget that line.

I've never found a good pipe and tobacco shop around these parts (out in the sticks). I've found most the decent shops are in big cities like Austin, Dallas, Houston, etc. and no way in hell am I ever gona get close to any of'em.

Hope you like heat and humidity! As far as pipe shops per se they really don't exist in the DFW area anymore. Welcome to the best place on earth !!
