I'm just curious. I've seen so many members seem to smoke their Lakeland blends in corn cobs. I was wondering if others might have experienced other styles of pipes also being great as a dedicated pipe in which to smoke Lakeland blends. I have been thinking about purchasing a new pipe, other than my MM Great Dane Spool straight cob, in which to smoke Lakelands. I've been kicking around a Meerschaum, a Gourd Calabash and of course a briar. Of these, are there ones that you have found to work particularly well? And if so, are there shapes that prefer? One thing I like on all my pipes, is an outside diameter of at least 1.7 inches: just seems to be more comfortable in the hand.

I have no Lakelands at the moment, but have smoked them in the past. I do not use a special pipe for that. I smoke them in the same pipes I smoke mist other tobaccos. The only blends I truly restrict the pipes on are traditional aromatics that smell like your local candy shop.

I suppose people use a cob as there theoretically is less chance of ghosting with the lakeland blend. However, I think there are occasions when even a cob can ghost with lakelands. I bought a Mark Twain MM cob and that's my dedicated lakeland blend. I'm happy with that so I'm not even going to think about a briar for it.

Lakelands will REALLY ghost a briar, I mean a demon type ghost. A meer would be the way to go IMHO. My theory on bowl size is big ones are always better.

Cobs and meers are some of the most absorbent material in pipe making and can be ghosted just as easily. Chamber shape and size don't affect flavors at all for me, and I smoke Lakelands in briars.

It depends on the particular pipe. Every pipe is gonna smoke differently for ya.
I smoke anything in everything with the exception of my strong aromatics, which I smoke in cobs or dedicated briars.
And I try not to smoke fine cut blends in my larger pots or pipes with a strong draft- To me it's too easy to smoke hot.

I don't disagree. Cobs and meers are both pores just like briar; however, I can trash can an $8 cob or make a meer fly right again relatively easy after Lakeland. A briar, not so much. A couple of briar estates I purchased were wood burning stove action due to the Lakeland ghost. It probably also affects the equation if one likes Lakeland and may not care.

I have two small bowl briars and a few cheap Cobs dedicated to those “ ghosting “ Lakeland blends. Also two Falcon bowls that smoke Lakeland’s great. The metal portion cleans up easily with alcohol. I haven’t smoked a Lakeland other than Bob’s Chocolate Flake in quite a while.

Wet coffee grounds would clear that up. I'm opposite with cobs and meers. During my last culling, the meers left my collection and the cobs remained.

I smoke Lakelands in my regular briars.
Just got back in from smoking a Lakeland in a hardly-smoked silver-mounted Dunhill. By some measures I've ruined that pipe once and for all time, but I don't feel that way.
Does a Lakeland ghost your pipe? Sure, a little.
Does it bother me? Not really. A little "kiss" of lakeland in a straight Virginia is surprisingly refreshing, and the effect doesn't last very long.
Try it and see if it bothers you before you worry about it too much.

Never noticed meerschaum ever ghosting. I smoke pretty much everything in those and I've never had a ghosting with them.
