A small thing, but I've never seen it mentioned. By "set" I mean on reassembly does your stem line up centered without any further fiddling on your part? About 1/3 of my pipes do and that always pleases me. The remainder need adjustment. That's it, just a thought in passing.

I will next time, out of curiosity.

The majority of my pipe stems line up easily with the end of the shank. On many of my round stem pipes I have a habit of slightly turning the stem on the right portion up a bit, on an angle. I find it more comfortable, especially that I clench most of the time. A perfectly straight stem in my mouth does not work well often.

Favoring the right side some I have to twist a wee bit. Should they make left handed pipes a question for the ages.

If the stem stays straight my bowl tilts to the left. And it drives me crazy. I clench on my left side. Deep bends are held up front with my bottom lip between the pipe and my teeth. On topic: I'd say 90% of my new pipes have came perfectly in line. Or as perfect as they could be.

Jason, I TOTALLY understand πππ
On topic : I believe Mike is questioning when you remove the stem from the shank for cleaning, does it line back up easily with no major fiddling around.

A lot of mine line up well, they're Grabows with screw in stems. The ones that aren't I haven't had a problem lining them up but being I clench on the right side I turn the stem to the right a little to straighten the bowl out. Might be why I prefer bulldogs and smaller bowl pipes because it's not as noticable.

Ken, your not alone, besides Josh and myself Iβve noticed a number of pipe smokers have the stem on a slight angle.....wether itβs right or left. Even on a few of my Cobs I slightly have the stem on an angle. Other than that.....Iβm totally straightπππ

Ah, I see. Never really noticed. My clench is more hanging/dangling from my teeth very loosely.

Duane ^^^^^^^^^ somehow I pictured you as a clencher. If a pipe Iβm smoking lasts 48 minutes, Iβd say itβs clenched in my mouth for 46 of those minutes. My Oom Paul Pipes are my favorite for a smoke over an hour for that perfect hanging out of my mouth well balanced comfortable smokeπ

Ahh now I get the original question. With your clarification and rereading the original post. Mine are about 50/50. I have 2 that I have to fight with to get them right.
Its just wonderful when it's almost lined up and then it goes a little too far. Then it's back to square one.

Yes, but the side discussions have been interesting. Not so much a point of aligning, but the stem going perfectly in place, almost as if it were grooved and slotted.

All my stems set well, though a couple of my very old pipes (70-80's) don't have the air hole in stem lined up perfectly with hole in the shank. Never had them corrected, but anything I've bought 2000 on have perfectly aligned air holes. I'm attributing it to modern technology.
