I've noticed, depending on the light source, that the smoke streaming from my pipe bowls varies in color from yellowish to blue. Any suppositions on the meaning?

Les. the average particle size of smoke is ~5 microns. I'd say that the light diffusion on the particulates is the reason for the perceived color.

Believe it or not, it can be impacted by soil composition. Nicaraguan soil contains a fair amount of magnesium and that contributes to the blue smoke that's common with cigars that come from there.
