The pipe survey results are now in with over 700 respondents. I want to thank everyone who took the time to complete it. The survey results will be made into two parts, Part I, which is now posted, contains the pipe question. Part II will contain the tobacco questions. The link to see the results is UPCA homepage

Thanks for posting this. The results are really interesting. I'm looking forward to the tobacco questionnaire.

Thanks for organizing this, Doc. The results had few surprises but I got the feeling that the pipe smoking community is attracting more younger people than most would think. A positive sign for us.

I'm not very shocked at the "resurgence." I think most adults now remember a time when things weren't always busy and we want that back. When I was young we didnt even have an Atari. Now I'm connected to the whole world in my pocket. Smoking a pipe is my escape from that. It gives me time to sit and think about what I'm doing, not worry about what's happening.

All's well with the UPCA link now. I messaged Doc Garr and Tom Wolfe about the snag, and they promptly hopped on it. The original problem may have been mainly with Chrome. The results and analysis are very interesting, but I can see folks jumping in with ways to improve the sampling for the next round.

Interesting that "personal curiosity" got more than double the amount of hits than "family member" as far as what influenced you to pipe smoking. I'd have thought family member (dad, gramps, uncle, brother, etc) would've been higher. As I said...interesting! Glad that personal curiosity has been the reason for 50% of those polled.
Were the "favorite pipe brands" selected from a provided list, or were they written in? I ask because it's curious that while the $30 - $50 range was the 3rd most popular for "typical price paid" for pipes (and new Dr. Grabows fall in that range), yet Dr. Grabow was not listed at all in the "favorite pipe brands" results. Regardless ones preferences...there are still far more Grabows in posession than any other brand.

Interesting.
Wonder if we have any of the 2-3 percenters that own over 300 pipes here at The Patch?!

Extremely interesting, now I’m going to spend more time reading it once again. Thanks Doc for all the time and effort 👍
PS What’s amazing the majority of pipe smokers had no preference what Country the briar originated from, unlike myself.

It's great to see a renewed interest in pipe smoking among younger folks.

Interesting. Wonder if we have any of the 2-3 percenters that own over 300 pipes here at The Patch?! I'm guessing most of them are here.

Yeah, the younger crowd may be coming in just at the time the FDA kicks them in the teeth and the best of the new tobaccos disappear right in front of their eyes...they better load up and cellar deep if they want to keep on keepin on.
