I'm not on every day so I usually only go back a couple pages, review and post likes. That's not a slight on anything which happened before hand I missed. It's just the way I roll. I didn't want this practice to be misconstrued and wondered about others' habits as well?

I no longer mark Likes in WAYS, due to vision issues. Prolonged squinting and marking likes induce a headache and tired eyes. I do read it, regularly and don't want to slight anyone.
* if I had my druthers, this whole Like business could be done away with.

Well stated but no likes would take away from things IMHO, make us Pipe Magazine Forum which is too boring. I'm just talking about the WAYS thread. I hope the good folks who participate regularly don't care if a few of us only jump in on an occasional basis?

I do the same as you, Mark. When I post, I'll go back to at least the last page, and attend to liking posts.
Edit: I also appreciate the "liking" in WAYS, as it's sort of a nod to others that you're invested in their enjoyment of pipe smoking.

There is a percentage of members who only post in WAYS occasionally. I can't see anyone being offended by that. WAYS is also a great way for new pipers to get established on the Patch.

For the "likes" in general, I have no problem with using it, but being a sporadic poster, I sometimes have a lot of time to 'Like" posts...and in other times I am on a schedule that only allows me to float over the threads and read them, much less being able to contribute or "like." I sometimes feel like I should give up liking anything lest it be misconstrued to contributors that I don't like posts that I do really like. Someday, when I am an old buzzard sitting on the porch...maybe I can Like more. I am very sporadic on WAYS threads.

I read as many posts as I can, but I feel most of our conversation is topical and if I wasn't present, I can be forgiven for missing out. Cool thing about this forum though, you can jump back in any time and it's like you never left.

A lot of y'all that have been there for a long time speak a language that's tough to pick up for noobs. And then all of a sudden you just leave and it's like WTF?

Mark & Charlie.....I “ like “ y’all and the rest of the bunch that make up the Patch. This is the ONLY pipe forum I’ve been a part of where 98% of the members are extremely kind and thoughtful towards others. So, don’t let that 2% destroy a “ good thing “!!
PS I avoid the chat room on here, on another forum it got out of hand and expressed my opinion in “ different tongue “....lol.

You're doing much better than I am, Mark - I completely forgot about it and haven't posted or looked at the thread in months. Not deliberate, just got out of the habit and spending less time online.

Charlie and I have both been here since the beginning and Justin hasn't kicked either one of our sorry asses off....yet. We may not agree on some things but I couldn't imagine this place without Charlie. He's one of the most knowledgeable people here about pipes, more so than me for sure, even if he is dumb arse about other stuff.

Aw shucks - the feeling's mutual, man. While we're at it: Your profile pic? It's like an early Picasso or an original by a man who digs Picasso. What is it? It's supposed to be a self-portrait by German expressionist Max Pechstein, though looks nothing like his other self-portraits. I saw it in either D.C. or Baltimore, can't remember which, and it just stuck out to me.

I feel the same way as most here. I have been trying to catch up, and have been the last couple days, but it's dependent on things here. It's never a slight if I miss someone.

I never know if anyone likes my posts because I never go back to check and I have the 'like' notification turned off. However, sometimes I do notice when I'm scrolling through the thread.
In the WAYS thread, each time I get caught up on the threads, there are about 2-3 pages of WAYS that are unread. Unfortunately I don't have the time to go through and like each post. So, in keeping with the OP, please don't take my lack of likes as anything other than the fact that I probably haven't read your post...yet.

I do the same thing. There are days I come home from work and it's 3 or 4 pages deep so I start over on the page my post is on.

That thread is hit and miss for me. Sometimes I post what I'm smoking, other times I dont. Sometimes it seems like 3-4 pages are added by the time I get back to it. I'll normally go a page back.
Me hitting the "like" button is more of an acknowledgement that I read it. When going back it also shows me where to pick up from where I left off. Sort of a bookmark for me.
