This has been a great thread with instructional comments but I must be missing something? I don't get what's wrong with what we're doing now? I've had nothing but great luck selling, trading or buying with forum members. With logging in required to view and 100 comments required to participate, I'm not sure what else is necessary but the comments have been a great read. What exactly would be the upside for additional measures?

I don't see any way to stop that wildfire. So many forums, so little tobacco. yeah, I don't see much of a way around it. There is a SLIGHT chance that "security through obscurity" would ward off lurkers here, but it wouldn't do diddly in the scope of things. Case in point, C&D Carolina Red Cake...

Well, yes. Lurkers, profiteers, non members etc. Why let them deplete a limited stock? Announcement is Posted and fellow members PM for the Seller/ and or a lock out page that can only be viewed by registered members. lockout page is a good idea. I was thinking that. It won't make a hill of beans, though, because Facebook and the other forums. I lurk on another prominent forum, and they have the news just as fast as us. In specialized groups they acquire the news even faster than the Patch.

The other forum I lurk in has stuff posted pretty early a lot of times. It's just nearly impossible to check everywhere, or know how to connect with the tobacco elites. Some of my pipe making buddies will give me a heads up sometimes. Ah, the tobacco crack head feeling...

I don’t think it matters. By the time someone hits “Create Post”, it’s going to have already been sold out. ☹️

The gun community saw a similar issue a few years ago with .22 LR ammo. When ammo was scarce people started hording, and a very small population in the gun community ended up spending most of their time searching out ammo and buying up as much as they could, leaving little to nothing for the rest of us. Thankfully I refused to horde, and now have plenty to hold me over for a few years (I don't shoot as much as I used to).

Many tobacco retailers have Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. When they post stock updates at the same time their website is updated, there's little time for forums to catch up. Thousands and maybe tens of thousands of followers see the alert on social media within seconds of stock becoming available at the online stores.

Unless our members are getting the information directly from the suppliers before it hits the public, chances are they're seeing the public announcement at the same time as everyone else who have signed up for the alerts (or who follow Instabook).
