I just realized i haven't smoked a pipe since last Thursday or Friday. So that is a week of no pipes for no reason other than I just haven't done it. I grab my gear and toss it in the truck but never get to the loading part. Sitting at home and thinking about what to smoke and then the next thing I know its bedtime. WTF is going on???

At least you know you're not addicted.

Pete, that tells me your not addicted to tobacco, which is a good thing. You smoke a pipe for pleasure, as I do. I have the capability of stopping at any time. Especially if/when hospitalized, I might miss a pipe but my body does not crave the nicotine 👌👍👍

That's the great pipes. You can smoke them when you feel like it, and it doesn't bug you when your mind is elsewhere.

I am the same way, I like nicotine, but never have a craving....certainly nothing anything like I have seen cigarette smokers.

Some days I think to myself, 'I'd really love a pipe today,' but it's not a craving, in my opinion; it's more like a desire.

It doesn't sound good. Smoke two bowls and post again in the morning.

I think pipes are very multi-dimensional when it comes to whatever "craving" there is for it. For me, the dimensions are: - Process - selecting, loading, lighting, tamping
- Flavors - these wax and wane through the myriad of whats in my cellar
- The pause - whether I am having a pipe on my back porch or on my commute, smoking a pipe pushes the pause button on life in a lot of ways and slows everything down.
- The smoke - the wafting off the bowl, the draw, the release
- And yes, the nic. Its not like cigarettes where you have a mental battery of nicotine like the battery on your cell phone and you get nervous when it gets low. Its more like a comfy pair of shoes or your favorite chair that just puts a nice thin layer of calm over you.
For me, more than one of those dimensions need to be present for the trigger to get pulled on a bowl. Any one by itself doesn't necessarily do it.

Forgot one other dimension:
- Do I have a comfortable place to smoke.
All other boxes can be checked but if the only place I have available to smoke is not comfortable then its a no go. That could be weather related or presence of others who do not like smoke in any way.

Sometimes I just get busy and before I realize it, I don't smoke. I have occasionally gone for a week without smoking a pipe. The same with drinking alcohol. I have a fifth of bourbon I was given as a Christmas present and it's only about half empty now.

But now that warmer months are coming I foresee that will change.

I go a week or so without a pipe or cigar fairly often. Other weeks Ill have several bowls and a few cigars. Just depends on the mood and where I am located at the time.

Sometimes I would sit on my garage, but it's among a load of junk and I don't get the experience I'm craving.

Glad I'm not the only one like this. Hey! It certainly makes the tobacco last longer.

Has nothing to do with smoking, you're just getting older! These times are called "senior moments" !

It has been nearly a week since I've smoked also. I've had a lot going on, including my parents coming into town. I've been too busy visiting and cooking to break out the pipe. Just got a new Molina pipe in this weekend, though, and since this is my day off I have every intention of getting started on the break-in process.

I've got the theme song to Welcome Back Kotter and Clapton's "Hello Old Friend" playing in my mind.
