That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. So, I really liked some of the sampler pack tobaccos that I purchased when I got my first Boswell pipe (thread here), and just happened to stumble on their site again .... I found another pipe that I just had to have. This one is a Jumbo "Squat Tomato" that is great to hold, smokes ultra-cool, and has some amazing birdseye on the bottom. They both are my favorites for reading a book on the patio, or watching a movie on the couch, but this one just doesn't want to be put down, very comfortable to leave resting in my hand the whole time. Shown with my Savinelli prince for size reference:

It is such a great thing when a pipe meets or exceeds your expectations, and when it is equally appealing to the eye, things really click. I have some me pipes that smoke wonderfully that look nowhere near as nice... old dogged estates... you hit paydirt!

Dang! You weren't kidding about that figure! I must admit, a pipe that large isn't my cup o' tea, but it sure is a beauty!

I have the same compulsion. But it's a minor compulsion and we can deal with it anytime that we want to.

On the one hand, that shape is frankly horrifying.
On the other hand, the birdseye on the ventral face is so astounding, how could any pipe man and pipemaker bear to trim it down?
That block of wood demanded the awkward shape, just to show us that perfect birdseye in contrast stain.

J M Boswell is well known for turning out some large, beautiful, good smoking pipes. Dan isn't any kind of slouch either. Most of my large briar is Boswells or L'Anatra.

I like the shape, but that grain... WOW!!
Congratulations on a great purchase. It'll take a while to burn through that one.

Dang! You weren't kidding about that figure! I must admit, a pipe that large isn't my cup o' tea, but it sure is a beauty! JM Boswell makes some very, very large pipes and has a rustication style all his own. Jaw hangers or hands-free they definitely are not! They aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I tend to like them and will probably pick one up at some point. Everyone that has reviewed them tends to agree that they smoke phenomenally owing to the thick walls and very easy draw. I am a fan of his bent poker styles personally. Some of them are the size of a log and would make for a great relaxation smoke,

Boswell makes great quality pipes with lots of excellent features and style. I have half a dozen of them myself...but I don't have a problem with PAD. (LOL). VERY nice Boswell, congrats.
